A method for crediting a customer account maintained by a vendor of services in response to payment received from a customer is disclosed herein. The method includes issuing, to the customer, a membership account number associated with at least the customer account. A membership account number and a payment corresponding to a requested amount of a service offered by the vendor are received from the customer at a point-of-sale. The method further includes generating, at the point-of-sale, an authorization message including at least the membership account number and embedded transaction information identifying the service offered by the vendor and the requested amount. The embedded transaction information is then communicated from the point-of-sale to a database server. The customer account is credited, in response to the embedded transaction information, based upon an amount of the payment. The method also includes electronically transferring funds based upon the amount of the payment from a first account associated with the point-of-sale to a second account associated with the vendor.

The architecture system is operated by a system operator and includes a customer profile database which stores various customer-related information, such as customer names and their respective payment and contact information, a plurality of databases each storing prepaid accounts for a particular prepaid service, such as telephony, Internet access, paging, and cellular, and web-site system hardware connected to the customer profile database and the plurality of databases and to a network, such as the Internet, for ubiquitously accessing the databases via the Internet for viewing and managing one's prepaid services, as well as purchasing additional prepaid services and/or usage rights. The architecture system further includes network hardware connected to the web-site system hardware for enabling outside system operators, e.g., wholesalers, online retailers, system developers and ISPs, to utilize the architecture system to brand their own prepaid services and offer them through the architecture system.

The method for handling a recharge service includes receiving a recharge service request; checking whether an abnormal recharge log includes a recharge card ID and whether a recharging process has been successfully performed via a recharge card associated with the recharge card ID; requesting a voucher center to authenticate the recharge card associated with the recharge card ID so that the voucher center may recharge, after the recharge card passes the authentication, the user account via the recharge card if the recharge card ID carried in the recharge service request is not contained in the abnormal recharge log, or a recharging process has not been successfully performed via the recharge card associated with the recharge card ID carried in the recharge service request. The methods and systems for handling a recharge service and communication apparatuses thereof according to embodiments of the present disclosure may effectively prevent the situation that one recharge card is used for recharge repeatedly, and thus avoiding economic loss to the operator.

The method also provides for purchasing pre-paid calling time by electronically transferring funds from an account of the subscriber to an account of a pre-paid call time provider, the amount of funds transferred equal to the dollar amount of pre-paid calling time to be credited to the subscriber; and crediting to the subscriber an amount of pre-paid calling time corresponding to the dollar amount of the transferred funds.
