Abstract: A surface emitting includes: an active layer; multiple reflectors facing each other with the active layer therebetween; and an electrode pair coupled to a power supply device and configured to inject current into the active layer. The surface emitting laser has: a current injection period in which the current is injected by the power supply device to oscillate no laser beam; and a current decrease period after the current injection period, in which a current value of the current injected into the active layer is lower than a current value of the current injected during the current injection period, to oscillate a laser beam.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to wearable display technologies. More specifically, various embodiments of the present invention provide wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection display systems where one or more laser diodes are used as light source for illustrating images with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projector systems that utilize transparent waveguides and blue and/or green laser fabricated using gallium nitride containing material. In another set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection systems having digital lighting processing engines illuminated by blue and/or green laser devices with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one embodiment, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating a 3D display system with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. There are other embodiments as well.

Abstract: An optical semiconductor device includes a chassis that has an external wall, a feedthrough that penetrates the external wall of the chassis and has a projection portion projecting toward outside of the chassis from the external wall, a connection terminal that is electrically connected to a component mounted in the chassis and is on the projection portion of the feedthrough, a first temperature detector that is on an external face of the external wall of the chassis and detects a temperature of the chassis, and a flexible substrate of which an end is connected to the connection terminal and of which a portion spaced from the end is connected to the first temperature detector, wherein the first temperature detector is between the external wall and the flexible substrate.

A photodetector is positioned to detect an intensity of a test light emitted at a perimeter of the lightguide from an optical path within the lightguide. A laser safety circuit provides a control to reduce or shut off a supply of electrical power from the power source to the laser sources in response to an output signal from the photodetector indicating that the detected intensity is below a threshold.
