There are provided: an electrically conductive thermoplastic elastomer composition which can be produced with higher productivity at lower costs by means of a simple arrangement and has excellent extrudability and a lower resistance required for a driving roller; a production method for the composition; a driving roller produced by employing the electrically conductive thermoplastic elastomer composition; and an image forming apparatus incorporating the driving roller. In the electrically conductive thermoplastic elastomer composition, 5 to 15 parts by mass of Ketjen black is finely dispersed in 100 parts by mass of a mixture of an ester type urethane thermoplastic elastomer and a plasticizer or in 100 parts by mass of a polyester thermoplastic elastomer. In the production method, the ingredient other than the Ketjen black is first kneaded, and then the Ketjen black is added to and further kneaded with the ingredient. The driving roller (1) is formed of the electrically conductive thermoplastic elastomer composition. The image forming apparatus incorporates the driving roller.

A rubber composition contains a higher ethylene content EPDM and a lower ethylene content EPDM as a rubber component. The proportion of the higher ethylene content EPDM is 30 to 80 mass % based on the overall amount of the rubber component. The rubber composition is less susceptible to reduction in friction coefficient μ and has a proper hardness, a smaller permanent elongation and an excellent abrasion resistance after crosslinking. Therefore, the rubber composition is suitable for a sheet conveying roller and an image forming apparatus incorporating the sheet conveying roller.

A thermal spray grit roller includes a roller shaft having an outer periphery and a roller body connected to the outer periphery of the roller shaft. A grit layer comprising a multiple individual grit particles is deposited on the circumferential outer surface of the roller body by a thermal spray process. A method for manufacturing the thermal spray grit roller includes collecting raw materials for use in the method, including at least one roller subassembly, having a roller body connected to a roller shaft, and the application material. The outer surface of each roller body is degreased. Then, any portion of the roller body outer surface that will not be covered by the grit layer is masked. Finally, the grit layer is formed on the roller body outer surface with a thermal spray process.

An endless belt for use in digital imaging systems is provided having edge to edge uniform flatness, and precise circumferential and edge to edge thickness. The layers comprising the belt may be tailored as desired for use in either image recording, image transfer or sheet transport operations. In one embodiment, the belt includes an elastomeric base layer, an elastomer-impregnated spun cord layer, a woven or non-woven fabric layer, and an elastomeric surface ply. The belt is preferably manufactured by building the layers on a workpiece and then curing the layers.
