Abstract: A graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition is provided for forming graphene-PET containers. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition includes a continuous matrix comprising polyethylene terephthalate and a dispersed reinforcement phase comprising graphene nanoplatelets. The graphene nanoplatelets range in diameter between 5 μm and 10 μm with surface areas ranging from about 15 m2/g to about 150 m2/g. In some embodiments, the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate comprises a concentration of graphene nanoplatelets being substantially 3% weight fraction of the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate is configured to be injection molded into a graphene-PET preform suitable for forming a container. The graphene-PET preform is configured to be reheated above its glass transition temperature and blown into a mold so as to shape the graphene-PET preform into the container.

Abstract: Modifiers for use in vinyl flooring applications reduce or eliminate the need for traditional, general-purpose plasticizers in applications that require increased hardness or rigidity. High solvating, fast fusing modifiers, such as dibenzoates, added to LVT formulations provide unexpectedly increased flexural strength, hardness, indentation resistance and deflection not heretofore known or recognized in luxury vinyl tile formulations.

Abstract: Provided herein are polysiloxane-based composite materials comprising a high weight percentage of elemental components (e.g., elemental boron, elemental copper, elemental bismuth, elemental lead) and low levels of carbon nanofibers. The elemental components may be present in the composite materials at levels greater than 25% by weight. Also provided herein are methods of forming the composite materials that have desirable flexibility and shielding properties. The invention provides a versatile composite material that is compliant and moldable, while still comprising high levels of the elemental shielding components. The materials are particularly useful for applications in which radiation shielding or neutron capture are desired.

Abstract: A method for treating polymer particles is disclosed. Polymer particles and a liquid are provided. The method includes the following steps (a) and (b). (a) Mixing said polymer particles with said carrier liquid to form a dispersion of said particles in said carrier liquid at a concentration of at least 0.1 g/L, based on the volume of the dispersion. (b) Subjecting the dispersion to microfluidization treatment thereby causing particle stretching, particle size reduction and increasing the surface area per unit mass of the polymer particles. Also disclosed is a particulate composition comprising polymer particles mixed with nanoplates derived from a layered material, wherein the particulate composition has a BET surface area of at least 10 m2/g. Furthermore, there is disclosed a method for the manufacture of a component formed of a composite of a polymer with a dispersion of nanoplates. The particulate composition is provided as a precursor particulate. Then the precursor particulate is formed into the component.
