Abstract:
An improved overcoat layer for an organic photoconductor drum of an electrophotographic image forming device is provided. The overcoat layer is prepared from a curable composition including a crosslinkable siloxane, nano metal oxide particles sized less than 400 nm in combination with a urethane acrylate resin having at least 6 functional groups. The outermost layer of an organic photoconductors is coated with the overcoat formulation of the present invention then cured. The resulting cured overcoated organic photoconductor has improved wear resistance and importantly does not negatively altering the electrophotographic properties of the organic photoconductor.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is related to coated photoconductors. In an example, a coated photoconductor can comprise a photoconductor including a substrate having a charge generation layer and charge transport layer adhered thereto and a top coating adhered to the photoconductor.

The surface layer includes a cured resin prepared by polymerization of a compound having two or more radically polymerizable functional groups per molecule, the cured resin containing an organic resin fine particle and a metal oxide fine particle, and the organic resin fine particle comprising a resin containing a structural unit derived from at least one of melamine and benzoguanamine, the organic resin fine particle having a number average primary particle size of 0.01 to 3.00 μm.
Abstract:
Antioxidants used for overcoat layers and processes for making the same. The present process for making the antioxidant has proven to be repeatable, cheaper, faster and safer than conventional processes. In particular, the present process uses a different solvent system where crude bis(4-diethylamino-2-methylphenyl)-(4-diethylaminophenylmethane) is dissolved in methylethyl ketone at room temperature, followed by product precipitation in a warm mixture of ethanol and water.
Abstract:
A method of forming an overcoat layer. The method comprises providing a substrate having an imaging structure formed thereon, the imaging structure comprising (i) a charge transport layer and a charge generating layer, or (ii) an imaging layer comprising both charge generating material and charge transport material. An overcoat composition is deposited on the imaging structure, the overcoat composition comprising a charge transport molecule, a fluorinated building block, a leveling agent, a liquid carrier and optionally a first catalyst. The fluorinated building block is a fluorinated alkyl monomer substituted at the α and ω positions with a hydroxyl, carboxyl, carbonyl or aldehyde functional group or the anhydrides of any of those functional groups. The overcoat composition is cured to form an overcoat layer that is a fluorinated structured organic film, the curing comprising treating an outer surface of the overcoat composition with at least one cross-linking process. The crosslinking process forms a cross-linking gradient in the overcoat layer. If the overcoat composition comprises the first catalyst, there is an insufficient amount of the first catalyst to fully cross-link the overcoat layer.
Abstract:
An overcoat layer comprises a structured organic film (SOF) comprising a plurality of segments and a plurality of linkers including a first fluorinated segment and a second electroactive segment, and an antioxidant is present in the SOF; and a hole transport molecule which does not form a network with the SOF.

Abstract:
A method of preparing a photoconductor drum having an overcoat layer is provided. The photoconductor drum is used in an electrophotographic image forming device. The photoconductor drum is prepared from a curable composition including a urethane resin having at least six radical polymerizable functional groups and a charge transport molecule having at least one radical polymerizable functional group. The amount of the urethane resin having at least six radical polymerizable functional groups in the curable composition is about 35 percent to about 65 percent by weight. The amount of the charge transport molecules having at least one radical polymerizable functional group in the curable composition is about 35 percent to about 65 percent by weight. This overcoat layer improves wear resistance of the photoconductor drum without negatively altering the electrophotographic properties, thus protecting the photoconductor drum from damage and extending its useful life.
