    摘要: A capvette for the optical examination of liquids comprises a cuvette component having a rectangular or square basal surface with four side walls terminating into an aperture, wherein said aperture is in communication with a sealable cap component comprising an opening for fluid passageway from a container into said cuvette component. The capvette and container combination, as a single unit allows reaction of fluid or growth of microorganism and measurement of optical density at desired time intervals. A direct method of measuring optical density comprises simply inserting the cuvette component of the capvette into a spectrophotometer.

    摘要: A system for interrogating non-homogeneous liquid samples to locate regions of interest within the samples, and to extract liquid from the regions of interest. The system of the invention is particularly well adapted for use in locating and in thoroughly removing liquid from regions of interest that include even extremely thin, film-like, horizontally extending layers of interest that typically are in the range of about 10 to 50 microns in thickness. The system utilizes a polarized beam of collimated laser light that is projected along a horizontal travel path, that is transmitted through a sample, and that is detected to enable characteristics of the transmitted light beam that have been affected by characteristics of the interrogated sample portions to be studied. By this arrangement, a centrifuged sample of liquid that differs in content at different height levels can be interrogated to locate levels within the sample where one or more layers of components of interest reside that are to be withdrawn from the sample. Withdrawal of liquid components from each such layer is effected by inserting a pipette into the sample to a level where the components reside, and by withdrawing the components through the pipette.
