Abstract:
The present invention is directed generally to a method of production of value-added, biobased chemicals from lignin sources, including waste lignin. A method of producing biobased aromatic chemicals, biobased aromatic fuels, and/or lignin residues from lignin is also described herein.
Abstract:
This disclosure includes a process that unexpectedly can produce very inexpensive graphene, functionalized graphenes, and a new compound called graphenol in particulate or dispersions in solvents. The process can also produce graphene layers on metallic and nonmetallic substrates. Further, the graphenol, functionalized graphenes, and graphene can be utilized to form nanocomposites that yield property improvements exceeding anything reported previously.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed generally to a method of production of value-added, biobased chemicals from lignin sources, including waste lignin. A method of using a depolymerization of lignin to create a tiered production of biobased aromatic chemicals and biofuels is also described herein. The method described herein may also allow for the selective production of the biobased aromatic chemicals and biofuels. Additionally, a reduction of waste products may also be provided from the present method.
Abstract:
The present invention refers to a method of converting a lignin material into a liquid product and the liquid product obtainable by the method.
Abstract:
The invention provides synthetic methods that utilize bromo or chloro substituents as blocking groups during the functionalization of aromatic rings, as well as compounds that are prepared from such methods.
Abstract:
An optically active 2,2′-biphenol derivative and a production method that enables simple and efficient production of this compound. More specifically, an optically active biphenol derivative represented by the following formulas (1) and (2), a method for optically resolving a biphenol derivative represented by formula (2′), a production method of an optically active biphenol derivative (1) comprising a step for reacting a Brønsted acid with a biphenol derivative (2), and a production method of an optically active biphenol derivative (3) comprising a step for reacting a Lewis acid with an optically active biphenol derivative (1) or an optically active biphenol derivative (2). In the following formulas, R represents, for example, a primary or secondary alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, * represents an axially asymmetric center, X represents a halogen atom, and R2 represents a tertiary alkyl group having 4 to 6 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
A process for preparing 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (p,p-bisphenol-A) from 2,4,4-trimethyl-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman (chroman 1.5) is disclosed. Phenol and chroman 1.5 are contacted over an acidic ion exchange resin at a given temperature for a given period of time. The process results in improved quality of p,p-bisphenol-A, better performance of catalyst, improved raw material usage, and reduced waste.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a solution of a quaternary cation and an anion from a deprotonated hydroxy aromatic in an organic solvent by means of a reactive extraction of a quaternary salt in the presence of an aqueous hydroxide solution, a hydroxy aromatic and an organic solvent is disclosed. Also disclosed is a process for the recycling of a quaternary salt phenolate solution from a reaction mixture.
