A method for learning a touch point of an engine clutch for a hybrid electric vehicle includes controlling a speed of an engine to have an idle speed. A fluid pipe of a clutch actuator is refilled with a working fluid by driving a driving motor in an idle control state of the engine, a speed of the driving motor is synchronized with the speed of the engine, and then the engine clutch is engaged. The engine clutch is released after the refill is performed, and the speed of the driving motor is decreased. A working fluid is applied so that the engine clutch is operated in an engagement direction by operating the clutch actuator, and a state change of the driving motor is detected. The touch point of the engine clutch is determined based on the state change of the driving motor.

In an illustrative embodiment, the vehicle may include a first system and a second system. The first system may be activated by a sequence of pedal presses to either the brake or acceleration pedal. A control system within the vehicle may exit the transport mode when the first system and second system have been activated within a predetermined time. The predetermined time may be based on a distance between the first system and the second system such that a single user may not activate both systems. A clutch pressure PID controller is configured to actuate the clutch to a touch point by regulating clutch pressure. The motor torque PID controller and the clutch pressure PID controller include a compensation function to account for a change in torque caused by actuation of the clutch by the clutch pressure PID controller.
