摘要: A vehicle safety release system effecting an automated release and having, inter alia, a seatbelt, an integrated circuit (control unit), a power source, a transmitter, and a collision detection sensor, is contemplated. The safety release system also contemplates a manual release built to work in tandem with the system's automated release. The safety release system may be operated by both a manual input and the input from one or more collision detection sensors. When a push button is depressed a signal is sent to the control unit to release the seatbelt. Aspects of embodiments of the invention also contemplate access to the seatbelt's base latch to enable removal, if needed.

The Seatbelt Safety Release device is installed directly into the seatbelt locking bay and is equipped to automatically release the belt five seconds after impact by means of sensors located in the bumper and fenders of an automobile which send a signal to a receiver activating a solenoid to disengage the seatbelt lock upon sensing an impact.

摘要: A vehicle occupant restraint system includes a seat belt webbing connected to a latch plate, wherein the latch plate is configured to be releasably connected to a buckle assembly in order to secure the webbing in a position capable of restraining the occupant. The buckle assembly includes a release button, a blocking component, a solenoid coupled to a connecting member positioned to engage the blocking component, and a solenoid actuator electrically connected to the solenoid. The blocking component is configured to engage the latch plate in order to connect the latch plate to the buckle assembly, and is configured to disengage from the latch plate in order to facilitate the release of the latch plate when the release button is depressed. When the solenoid actuator actuates the solenoid, the connecting member is configured to move to thereby change the position of the blocking component in order disengage the blocking component from the latch plate.

A solenoid located in the seat belt buckle is used to release the seat belt tongue from the buckle. When the vehicle transmission is in the “park” position, the ignition is turned off, and the key is removed, the solenoid is energized to release the seat belt tongue. Further, a switch may be conveniently located in the vehicle such as on the seat belt buckle, near the window, on the door, or the like to activate the solenoid and release the seat belt assembly without having to turn off the vehicle ignition.

摘要: Apparatus and method for deploying airbags in a vehicle in which a first inflatable airbag protects an occupant in a seating location during a crash and a second inflatable airbag moves the occupant in the seating location away from an interior surface of the vehicle upon inflation. A crash sensor system determines that a crash involving the vehicle will occur or is occurring and initiates inflation of the first and second airbags. The second airbag may be inflated prior to inflation of the first airbag such that inflation of the second airbag causes the occupant to be moved away from the interior surface of the vehicle and into a better position for deployment of the first airbag. In one exemplary embodiment, the first airbag is a side curtain airbag and the second airbag is arranged in a door of the vehicle to move the occupant away from the door.

摘要: Airbag inflation control system and method for a vehicle including an airbag module having a housing mounted in combination with the seat back and an inflatable airbag arranged therein. An anticipatory sensor detects that an impact requiring deployment of the airbag is required based on data obtained prior to the crash and initiates inflation of the airbag in the event an impact requiring deployment of the airbag is detected prior to the start of the impact. An inflator responds to the detection by the anticipatory sensor that an impact requiring deployment of the airbag is required and inflates the airbag. The occupant may be displaced upon inflation of the airbag.

摘要: A vehicle interior monitoring system to identify, locate and monitor occupants, including their parts, and other objects in the passenger compartment and objects outside of a motor vehicle, such as an automobile or truck, by illuminating the contents of the vehicle and objects outside of the vehicle with electromagnetic, and specifically infrared, radiation and using one or more lenses to focus images of the contents onto one or more arrays of charge coupled devices (CCD arrays). Outputs from the CCD arrays, are analyzed by appropriate computational means employing trained pattern recognition technologies, to classify, identify or locate the contents or external objects. In general, the information obtained by the identification and monitoring system is used to affect the operation of some other system in the vehicle. When system is installed in the passenger compartment of an automotive vehicle equipped with an airbag, the system determines the position of the vehicle occupant relative to the airbag and disables deployment of the airbag if the occupant is positioned so that he/she is likely to be injured by the deployment of the airbag.
