Abstract: A system for managing adjustments for a component of a vehicle includes a time-of-flight sensor configured to generate a point cloud representing a compartment of the vehicle. The system further includes an actuator configured to adjust the component of the vehicle. The system further includes processing circuitry in communication with the time-of-flight sensor and the actuator. The processing circuitry configured to detect an occupant in a seat of the vehicle based on the point cloud, define a first portion of the point cloud corresponding to the occupant and a second portion of the point cloud corresponding to the seat of the vehicle, calculate a volume of the occupant based on the first portion of the point cloud, estimate a bodyweight of the occupant based on the volume, and communicate an instruction to adjust the component of the vehicle in response to the estimation of the bodyweight.

Abstract: A system for notifying an occupant of a vehicle of unauthorized interaction with his or her possessions includes one or more cameras that collect image data of a surrounding environment of the occupant. The surrounding environment of the occupant is an interior cabin of the vehicle. The system also includes one or more controllers in electronic communication with the one or more cameras, the one or more controllers execute instructions to monitor, by the one or more cameras, the image data of the surrounding environment of the occupant. In response to detecting the unauthorized interaction with the one or more possessions associated with the occupant, the one or more controllers generate a notification informing the occupant of the unauthorized interaction.

The occupant constraint system may include a passenger related system having a passenger function and the passenger related system may control the passenger function based at least in part on the physical characteristic estimate.

A twisted-posture determiner is configured to determine whether the occupant is in a twisted posture based on the shoulder-joint information. An occupant-build determiner is configured to determine a build of the occupant based on the shoulder-joint information. The occupant-build determiner is further configured to, in response to the twisted-posture determiner determining that the occupant is in the twisted posture, cancel making a determination of the build of the occupant based on shoulder-joint information that was used to determine that the occupant is in the twisted posture.

Abstract: Techniques described herein include a system and method for switching an airbag on or off based on determining that an object situated in a vehicle seat meets one or more conditions. In some embodiments, the vehicle seat may be fitted with a weight sensor configured to detect an object situated in the vehicle seat. The system may include a camera device configured to capture image information associated with the object situated in the vehicle seat. The image information may be processed to determine if the object is a person meeting one or more threshold conditions for activating the airbag. Upon processing the image information, the airbag may be provided with instructions to either activate or deactivate.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for identifying occupancy of a seat use a camera. In order to achieve permanently reliable identification of the occupancy of a seat, the camera is oriented such that it captures at least one area of interest of the seat. An evaluation apparatus is used to identify the area of interest in a picture taken by the camera and to store a position for the area of interest. The evaluation apparatus selects the area of interest in pictures subsequently taken by the camera at the stored position and compares the area of interest with at least one stored picture sample. A result of this comparison is taken as a basis for identifying the seat as being occupied. In addition, an apparatus having a camera and an evaluation apparatus is described for performing the method.
