    摘要: The present invention relates to a drill bit structure which comprises a body. The body has a free end, an intermediate section and a connection end. The body comprises a first groove portion, a second groove portion, a third groove portion, a fourth groove portion and a fifth groove portion. The first groove portion is partially overlapped with the third groove portion from the free end. The second groove portion is partially overlapped with the fourth groove portion from the free end. After extending a preset axial distance from the free end, the first groove portion and the second groove portion are partially overlapped with each other by forming an intersecting protrusion. The fifth groove portion is extended from the intermediate section toward the connection end. The first, second, third and fourth groove portions are extended to the fifth groove portion.

    摘要: The method is suitable for the micromachining of accurately aligned holes in the aerofoil surface of a component such as a jet engine turbine blade or vane which comprises a ground anchorage portion and a cast aerofoil portion. The method uses a micromachining apparatus which is pre-programmed to machine holes in the aerofoil surface when that surface is in a predefined reference position and orientation in the apparatus. Initially the component is mounted in the micromachining apparatus by means of its anchorage portion. At least one probe is then moved into contact with the surface of the cast aerofoil portion to derive the positions of selected points on that aerofoil portion. From the derived position data, angular and linear offset data may be calculated to define the deviation of that cast aerofoil portion from the reference position and orientation defined in the computer memory of the micromachining apparatus. That angular and linear offset data is applied to the computer program resident in the micromachining apparatus to control the movement of the drilling head relative to the aerofoil surface and to machine the air holes in the aerofoil surface without having to remove the component from the apparatus.

    摘要: A single point drill particularly adapted to producing small diameter deep holes utilizing a peck feed cycle routine. The preferred embodiment features a limited flute length with a depth approximately 1/3 the drill diameter and a dual point edge consisting of a shallow cutting angle and a steep relief angle. A negative rake angle runs along this edge functioning as a knife edge that will cut on opposite rotation, countering the unbalanced forces inherent in a single point tool. A sharpening fixture consisting of 2 parallel slates secured with a T-headed bolt and an anti-rotation pin. The lower plate features a central groove to locate the drill, the upper plate having a short land that facilitates orienting and clamping the drill flute. The forward end of the fixture mimics the drill point allowing the drill to be sharpened on a grinder table or by hand with a suitable abrasive stone or file.

    摘要: A drill bit, and associated method of manufacture, characterized by the presence of a low friction coating on the drill flute surfaces and the absence of such coating from the facets on the cutting surfaces of the drill bit. In one form, a tungsten carbide based microdrill bit is coated with a high temperature diamond like carbon to a layer thickness measured in microns. The cutting facets of the microdrill bit are then ground to expose the tungsten carbide material. The microdrill bit formed thereby is particularly useful in creating holes through multilayer printed circuit boards as a part of forming electrical vias. Low friction flute surface coated microdrills exhibit materially longer drill life, better drill location accuracy, can operate at materially greater chiploads, and produce higher quality holes through printed circuit boards.

    摘要: The shank for a micro drill 0.06 inch in diameter or less is made from three-like cylindrical rods which are brazed together along engaging lines which are parallel to the center of the rods forming a triangular body with a central aperture therebetween which is also parallel to the rod centers. One end of the joined rods has a drill advanced into the aperture for drilling a hole therein for the driven end of the micro drill. The end may be supported within the drilled aperture by suitable adhesive such as an epoxy, a low temperature solder or the like so that the drill end can readily be removed in case of breakage for replacement without affecting the securement of the three rod sections together with the higher temperature brazing material.
