    摘要: A drill sharpener is provided which has a point-splitting port which simplifies the procedure for producing a split point on a drill bit undergoing sharpening. The point-splitting port is positioned relative to a grinding wheel assembly such that, when the drill held by a chuck is advanced toward the grinding wheel, a flute of the drill at the drill tip is brought into contact with the grinding wheel. The port has alignment stops therein which mate with flats provided on the barrel of the chuck to ensure proper alignment of the chuck and drill relative to the grinding wheel. The stops also limit the extent of inward travel of the chuck and drill to a predetermined distance. A debris or grit collection tube is also provided to be inserted into an unused port of the drill sharpener, to contain and confine any debris or grit attempting to exit the sharpener through the unused port.

    摘要: A completely automated apparatus for verifying the identity and geometry of drill bits, re-sharpening the cutting tip of a drill bit and re-positioning a locating ring upon the shank portion of the drill bit subsequent to the re-sharpening of the cutting tip thereof. The apparatus comprises a housing having a pair of cassette trays, a pair of grinding assemblies, a pair of optical assemblies, a pair of primary cleaning assemblies, a pair of secondary cleaning assemblies, a pair of inversion assemblies, a pair of workhead assemblies, a bumping assembly, and a loader assembly attached thereto. The workhead and loader assemblies are used to transport drill bits between the cassette trays and other assemblies in a selected sequence which is controlled and coordinated by a programmable control device. The control device is electrically interfaced to each of the assemblies and allows the cutting tip re-sharpening and locating ring re-positioning processes to be conducted simultaneously on at least two drill bits.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a apparatus and method for sharpening rotary tools which includes a base for supporting a housing and a slidable table. The housing includes a motor which drives a grinding wheel located at the end of the drive shaft. A sleeve is pivotally mounted on one end of the slidable table. A toolholder which holds the tool to be sharpened is placed and is slidable within the sleeve. A spiraled cam is attached to the toolholder. A guidepin, supported by the sleeve, rides within the spiraled groove of the cam to rotate the toolholder such that the tool will be sharpened along a spiraling blade. A pointer is supported by the sleeve for marking each successive point at which the tool will strike the grinding wheel as the toolholder is advanced within the sleeve toward the grinding wheel. The invention may also include a second sleeve mounted on the slidable table such that the central axis of the second sleeve is approximately at a right angle with respect to the central axis of the first sleeve. The second sleeve allows for the toolholder and tool to be placed in position for the sharpening of the end of the tool.

    摘要: A main frame supports a first shaft rotatably so that a grinding wheel mounted at the end of the shaft may be rotated. A second shaft supports at one end a drill bit holding element for supporting a drill bit which is to be sharpened. The drill bit holding element has a first arm and a second arm for receiving the end of the second shaft, one arm being used in order to sharpen one facet of the drill bit end, and the other arm being used to sharpen the other facet of the drill bit end. A locking frame integrally connected with the arms is telescopically received in a hollow frame, which plate is urged upwardly toward the top surface of the hollow frame to lock in place a drill bit between the top V-shaped surface of the locking plate and the top surface of the hollow frame. A gauge is also provided in the top surface of the hollow frame in order to initially position the drill bit end relative to the grinding wheel surface.

    摘要: A multi-angle grinding fixture comprising a block formed from suitable steel which has slots for holding a spade drill blade in predetermined positions. The blade is held in a first slot for grinding the primary side clearance on each side of the blade. The blade is held in a second slot for grinding a secondary side clearance on each side of the blade. The blade is held in a third slot for cutting the cutting lip angle or for grinding the cutting lip angle on each side of the blade. The blade is held in a fourth slot for cutting or grinding the radius of the cutting edge lip on each side of the blade. The fixture block may be used for either new construction work on a blade or for regrinding a blade.
