    Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for machining the running edges of a sporting device, more particularly a ski or a snowboard, comprising a transport apparatus, which can be temporarily connected to the sporting device, for the automated movement of the sporting device in a movement sequence having, at least in parts, a movement direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the sporting device, wherein the following are located one behind the other in said movement sequence of the sporting device: —a lower-edge machining unit for machining a lower surface of at least one running edge, said lower surface laterally adjoining the running-surface covering of the sporting device; —a lateral-edge machining unit for machining a lateral surface of the at least one running edge, said lateral surface adjoining the bottom of the lateral surface of the sporting device; and —a deburring unit for removing a burr formed by the lateral-edge machining unit on the at least one running edge.

    Abstract: A method of customizing an ice blade to a user having the steps of measuring ice blade with, for example, a 3D scanner, to establish an initial calibration measurement set for the blade, and having the user use the blade on an ice surface. The blade may then be re-measured to detect wear patterns. The blade may then be customized in shape or sharpening based on the measured wear. In another embodiment the wear is used to provide function feedback to the user. In another embodiment, the user is biometrically evaluated, a preferred blade shape is determined based on the biometric evaluation and the fit of the preferred shape may be evaluated based on wear created of said blade when in use.

    Abstract: A skate blade sharpening system retains a skate blade in a sharpening position whose centerline has a first location relative to a first visual reference feature. A motor-driven rotating shaft has a wheel-mounting location for mounting a grinding wheel for sharpening operation. The shaft accepts an alignment wheel at the wheel-mounting location during an alignment, the alignment wheel having a second visual reference feature having a second location relative to a centerline of the grinding wheel when occupying the wheel-mounting location. An adjustment mechanism moves the shaft transversely during alignment to vary relative position between the wheel-mounting location and the sharpening position including an aligned position in which the centerline of the grinding wheel is aligned with the centerline of the sharpening position, the aligned position being indicated by alignment of the first visual reference feature with the second visual reference feature during alignment.
