Embodiments disclosed herein include a positive pressure inhaler for delivery of aerosolized/vaporized medication to a patient's lungs under positive pressure and in a known volume of air, and methods of using the positive pressure inhaler for such delivery.

The present disclosure relates to systems and apparatus that provide for integration of different respiratory therapies into a single system, or provide for integrated switching between separate systems or apparatuses delivering different therapies such as anaesthesia and high flow therapy. Aspects of the disclosure relate to various systems, devices, apparatuses, switching mechanisms and multi-lumen lumen assemblies for integrating control of these therapies and providing flexibility in how and where a user controls switching between therapies.

This invention relates to an airway dilation device comprising a catheter; an inflation tube within the catheter, and having a lumen defined by its inner wall; a duct within the catheter, for the insufflation of a fluid, the duct being sealed against any fluid flow between it and the tube; a cluster of balloons, arranged about the catheter, the balloons being manipulated between a stowed condition, in which the balloons are deflated, and a deployed condition, in which the balloons are inflated; and inflating means, for inflating the balloons; characterised in that, when stowed, each balloon is folded and staggered relative to each adjacent balloon, and such that continuous insufflation remains possible, even when deployed. This invention relates, further, to corresponding methods of deployment of devices.

Disclosed is a respirator which comprises an electronic control device and a pneumatic main line in which the following are connected pneumatically: a respiratory gas source, a valve, a mixing chamber, a gas-dosing unit, and a supply line. The gas-dosing unit is configured to convey external air and/or oxygen and/or anesthetic gas into the mixing chamber, the respiratory gas source is configured to deliver respiratory gas to the supply line, the mixing chamber is configured to make available respiratory gas, the supply line is configured to supply the patient with respiratory gas, and the valve is configured to at least temporarily reduce a stream of respiratory gas to a patient.

A device analyzes an anesthesia ventilation gas with an infrared radiation source and includes a gas cuvette, a Fabry-Perot interferometer with a band pass filter function, adjustable with respect to a central transmission wavelength as a function of a control signal, a detector providing a measured signal and a computing and control unit providing the control signal and detecting the measured signal. The computing and control unit is configured to actuate the Fabry-Perot interferometer in a first operating mode by the control signal such that the central transmission wavelength scans a predefined wavelength range, to detect a presence in the ventilation gas sample potential types of anesthetic gases based on the measured signal. In a second operating mode, the control unit controls the central transmission wavelength within a subrange of the predefined wavelength range and determines a plurality of concentration values at consecutive times for detected types of anesthetic gases.

Systems and methods for identifying physiological states of a patient are provided. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a time-series of physiological data, and generating a multinomial regression model that includes regression parameters representing signatures of multiple neural states. The method also includes estimating probabilities for each of the neural states by applying the regression model to the time-series of physiological data, and identifying one of a current and future brain state of the patient using the estimated probabilities. The method further includes generating a report indicating a physiological state of the patient.

A fluid flow sensor includes a hollow cylindrical casing containing a large number of solid spheres of identical diameter, packed tightly together. Fluid inflow and fluid outflow blocks are mounted to opposite ends of the casing, forming a fluid-tight seal. The fluid inflow and outflow blocks each enclose a generally conical fluid chamber tapering from where it meets an end of an interior of the casing to a respective inlet passage or outlet passage. Circular grilles divide the casing from each fluid chamber and retain the spheres in place. A pressure differential across the casing is measured via side passages extending laterally from each fluid chamber. For a given fluid, a given casing diameter and a given sphere diameter, this pressure differential can be converted to a fluid flow rate.

A drug administration controller has a sensor that generates a sensor signal to a physiological measurement device, which measures a physiological parameter in response. A control output responsive to the physiological parameter or a metric derived from the physiological parameter causes a drug administration device to affect the treatment of a person, such as by initiating, pausing, halting or adjusting the dosage of drugs administered to the person.

An breathing or anesthesia apparatus and a process for operating a breathing or anesthesia apparatus are provided in which only a very low energy consumption occurs outside of the operating times. The breathing or anesthesia apparatus (1) is put into an energy-saving mode and a function pretest is performed before putting the apparatus into the energy-saving mode. A function self-test is carried out when the breathing or anesthesia apparatus is put into a standby mode.
