摘要: According to some embodiments, a method of inserting a lateral implant within an intervertebral space defined between an upper vertebral member and a lower vertebral member includes creating a lateral passage through a subject in order to provide minimally invasive access to the intervertebral space, at least partially clearing out native tissue of the subject within and/or near the intervertebral space, positioning a base plate within the intervertebral space, wherein the base plate comprise an upper base plate and a lower base plate and advancing an implant between the upper base plate and the lower base plate so that the implant is urged into the intervertebral space and the upper vertebral member is distracted relative to the lower vertebral member.

摘要: A method and apparatus for treating a stricture in a body lumen. The method comprises (a) sensing pressure being exerted by a treatment device on the stricture, (b) determining if enough force is being exerted on the stricture, (c) if enough force is being exerted on the stricture, timing the application of enough force, (d) determining if too much force is being exerted by the treatment device on the stricture, (e) if too much force is being applied to the stricture, decrementing the force being applied to the stricture, (f) determining if not enough force is being applied to the stricture, (g) if not enough force is being applied to the stricture incrementing the force being applied to the stricture, and (h) repeating (a)-(g) until (i) a desired pressure has been maintained on the tissue for a desired time. The apparatus comprises a device for exerting pressure on the stricture, a controller for controlling the amount of pressure the device exerts on the stricture, and a pressure sensor for sensing the pressure being exerted on the stricture by the device.

摘要: A spinal distracter and stabilizer has resilient, conformable bone contacting sections which are separated by an expandable chamber that extends from one of the sections, and which forms a ratchet with the section, ensuring that once expanded by being filled with a substance, cannot contract absent intervention by a medical practitioner. The stabilizer may be filled with a material which solidifies, after which some or all of the device may biodegrade. The device may also be provided in separable portions to facilitate implantation. The conformable sections distribute the distraction and stabilizing force evenly over the bone surface, reducing the incidence of disruption to the integrity of the bone.

A fluid cylinder may be positioned between the first and second contact surfaces and configured to contain a fluid. The fluid cylinder may include an outer cylinder with an open first end that telescopingly receives an inner cylinder. The spacer is configured to maintain the distance between the contact surfaces at a desired amount.

摘要: Vertebral body replacement apparatuses, systems, and methods are provided. In various examples, an implantable device is configured to be inserted between a first vertebral body and a second vertebral body. The implantable device includes a first endplate configured to contact the first vertebral body. A second endplate is configured to contact the second vertebral body. An expansion bladder is disposed between and coupled to the first endplate and the second endplate. The expansion bladder includes a first chamber and a second chamber. The first chamber and the second chamber are sealed from fluid communication with one another. An injection port is disposed through one of the first endplate or second endplate. The injection port includes a first channel in fluid communication with the first chamber and a second channel in fluid communication with the second chamber.

摘要: A radially compressed xerogel spinal nucleus implant is manufactured and utilized for implantation into an intervertebral disc space. The implant has an optimized cross-sectional ellipsoid configuration which facilitates insertion of the implant through a minimal incision in the annulus. Radial compression is achieved by exerting substantially equilateral circumferential compression on an object contained within a radially collapsible member for exerting substantially equilateral circumferential compression on the object. Radial compression may also be achieved by exerting substantially equilateral circumferential compression force on a spinal nucleus implant via gas pressure in a sealed chamber.

A modifiable implant includes a body and a release member associated including a reactive composite material associated therewith. The structural connectivity of the implant can be modified upon activation of the release member, such as for removal of the implant. Systems and methods of using the same are disclosed.
