    Abstract: A spinal interbody device includes a base link comprising a first end and a second end, the base link including a cutout extending through the base link between the first end and the second end; a linkage including a first link having a first end coupled to the first end of the base link and a second end, the first link including a first aperture extending through the first link and defining a first longitudinal axis; and a second link having a first end coupled to the second end of the first link and a second end coupled to the second end of the base link, the second link including a second aperture extending through the second link and defining a second longitudinal axis. The base link and the first and second links define top and bottom surfaces configured to engage adjacent portions of bone, and first and second sides extending between the top and bottom surfaces. When the linkage is movable relative to the base link between a collapsed position and an expanded position, wherein when in the expanded position, an unobstructed line of sight is provided through the cutout and the first aperture along the first longitudinal axis and through the cutout and the second aperture along the second longitudinal axis.

    Abstract: Interbody spacers are expandable horizontally and vertically by an application of axial force, and lockable in an expanded configuration. The spacers include support members interconnected to end bodies by pivotable link members. The spacers are introduced between vertebral bodies in a compressed configuration and expanded to fill the intervertebral space and provide support and selective lordotic correction. Graft material may be introduced into the expanded spacer. Provisional and/or supplementary locking means lock the spacers in the expanded configuration. Embodiments of the spacers include symmetrically and asymmetrically configured spacers. Methods of expansion include symmetric expansion or asymmetric expansion along each of two directions.

    Abstract: An insertion instrument for expandable spinal implants includes an elongate member, a shuttle, and a worm gear. The elongate member includes a handle portion of a proximal end and an end effector on a distal end, wherein the end effector is configured to be releasably engaged to an expandable spinal implant. The shuttle is slidably disposed within a cavity defined within the end effector and includes a wedged shaped distal end configured to engage an expandable spinal implant. The worm gear is rotatably disposed within the cavity defined in the end effector and is in mechanical communication with the shuttle, such that rotation of the worm gear effectuates movement of the shuttle. Distal movement of the shuttle effectuates articulation of an expandable spinal implant. A method of performing surgery is also disclosed.
