Abstract: A medical implant system is described for inhibiting infection associated with a joint prosthesis implant. An inventive system includes an implant body made of a biocompatible material which has a metal component disposed on an external surface of the implant body. A current is allowed to flow to the metal component, stimulating release of metal ions toxic to microbes, such as bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and viruses. One detailed system is completely surgically implantable in the patient such that no part of the system is external to the patient while the system is in use. In addition, externally controlled devices are provided which allow for modulation of implanted components.

A guard includes an outer sidewall and an inner sidewall defining a cavity that covers a modular implant connection portion. The modular implant connection covered with the guard can facilitate test-fitting of other modular implant components and allows reaming of the tissue around the guard.

Abstract: A femoral neck protection device comprises a main body disposed with a hollow sleeve; and a flange extended outwardly from the peripheral rim at one end of the sleeve, so that when this protection device is in use, the fractured head of the femur is removed through a surgical operation and a neck of a femur is trimmed to be fitly inserted into the shape of the sleeve of the present invention; the flange of the sleeve tightly affixes to the surface of the femur so as to completely protect the trimmed femoral neck protection device. In addition to the central hole of the sleeve, at least one aperture is disposed on the flange thereon that allows the new-grown blood vessels and callous formation of the femur to pass through the apertures and cover the flange and integrally connect the sleeve and the femur.
