    Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuous polymerization of olefin(s), and a method for transferring a polymer powder from one reactor to another in the apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of serially disposed gas-phase polymerization reactors including a combination of an upstream and downstream reactors and a gas exchange vessel disposed between both reactors. The gas exchange vessel is connected to the upstream and downstream reactors by a first and second transfer conduits, respectively. The gas exchange vessel has a gas distributor plate therein which partitions the gas exchange vessel into an upper section having a gas exchange chamber and a lower section. In the gas exchange chamber, the gas transferred from the upstream reactor together with a polymer powder is exchange at least partly with fresh gas introduced through the gas distributor plate via the lower section. The polymer powder is then transferred to the downstream reactor.

    Abstract: For use in gas phase polymerization apparatus having an agitator in a fluidized bed polymerization reactor, the present invention provides a gas distributor which has holes, and caps covering the respective holes from above and each having an opening oriented in a substantially horizontal direction at an angle of about 90 to about 135 deg with, and outwardly of, a tangent to a circle centered about the center of the reactor whereby an increase in the gas solid ratio can be prevented in the region above the distributor to ensure efficient discharge of the polymer produced, and the polymer particles can be prevented from falling into a gas room thereunder.

    Abstract: A propylene-ethylene-butene block copolymer is provided which includes from 60 to 85% by weight of a polypropylene portion and from 15 to 40% by weight of a propylene-ethylene-butene random copolymer portion, wherein the copolymer satisfies the requirements (1) and (2) given below. In addition, a molded article including such a propylene-ethylene-butene block copolymer is provided.     Abstract: A process for producing a 4-methylpentene-1 copolymer comprising copolymerizing 4-methylpentene-1 with other .alpha.-olefin in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst and a resin composition containing the 4-methylpentene-1 copolymer are disclosed. The copolymerization comprises a first stage in which (A) a homopolymer or random copolymer of 4-methylpentene-1 having an .alpha.-olefin content of not more than 3 mol % and an intrinsic viscosity of at least 2.5 dl/g is prepared and a second stage in which (B) a random copolymer having an .alpha.-olefin content higher than that of the polymer (A) and no higher than 9 mol % and an intrinsic viscosity of at least 2.5 dl/g is prepared, and the produced copolymer insoluble in the solvent is separated to recover a 4-methylpentene-1 copolymer containing from 5 to 80% by weight of the polymer (A). The process produces a solvent-insoluble copolymer in an increased yield without impairing transparency of the copolymer.

    Abstract: A process for producing propylene-ethylene block copolymers by a three-step polymerization technique using a stereoregular catalyst, characterized in that the first-step polymerization is carried out by supplying propylene alone or a propylene/ethylene mixture so that the ethylene/propylene reaction ratio is 6/94 or less, thereby polymerizing 60 to 95% by weight of the total polymerization amount, the second-step polymerization is carried out by supplying a propylene/ethylene mixture so that the ethylene/propylene reaction ratio is 15/85 to 79/21, thereby polymerizing 1 to 20% by weight of the total polymerization amount, and the third-step polymerization is carried out by supplying a propylene/ethylene mixture so that the ethylene/propylene reaction ratio is 50/50 to 89/11, thereby polymerizing 4 to 35% by weight of the total polymerization amount, with the ethylene/propylene reaction ratio in the third step made larger than that in the second step. Said process can give propylene-ethylene block copolymers markedly well balanced in impact strength, stiffness, transparency and impact blushing.
