摘要: Apparatus and methods for perfusing ischemic myocardium, and optionally, for reducing the load on a patient's left ventricle, are provided using a inlet conduit having an inlet end configured for insertion into an oxygenated blood source, including without limitation, the left atrium, left ventricle, aorta, pulmonary vein, subclavian artery, brachiocephalic artery, radial artery or femoral artery, coupled to an outlet conduit having an outlet end configured for insertion into the coronary venous vasculature via the coronary ostium. The inlet conduit may include a stylet or elastomeric sleeve that facilitates placement, while the outlet conduit may include a valve for limiting a peak pressure attained in the coronary venous system. A motor-driven or hydraulically-actuated pump optionally may be coupled in the flow path, and control circuitry provided to control the pump with a user selected duty cycle.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for perfusing ischemic myocardium are provided using a tubular member having an end region adapted to be disposed in a portion of a patient's venous vasculature. The end region includes a lumen and a valve in communication with the lumen that controls pressure within an occluded portion of the vasculature by venting excess blood at a location proximal of a point of occlusion of the vasculature via the valve. An occlusion element optionally may be provided in the end region that retains the tubular member within the patient's venous vasculature and occludes the flow of blow around the lumen.

摘要: The present invention is a method and device, which is suitable for use in an operating theater just prior to implantation, for selectively applying a medical coating to an implantable medical device, for example a stent. Disclosed is a device for use with a stent deployed on a catheter balloon. The device is configured to apply a medical coating of a desired thickness to the surface of a stent only. This is done by use of a drop-on-demand inkjet printing system in association with an optical scanning device. The device is further configured so as to, if necessary, apply a plurality of layered coats, each layered coat being of a different coating material, and if appropriate, different thickness. The section of the housing in which the stent is held during the coating procedure is detachable from the housing base. The detachable housing section may be easily cleaned and re-sterilized or simply disposed or simply disposed of.

摘要: Apparatus is provided that combines mammography equipment with an ultrasonic transducer to generate ultrasonic images of the internal structure of breast tissue that are in geometric registration with a mammogram. The apparatus includes a radiolucent and sonolucent compression plate, and in alternative embodiments, a gantry driven ultrasound transducer or a phased array ultrasonic transducer. Methods are provided for generating a mammogram and a plurality of corresponding ultrasound images without moving the breast between the mammogram exposure and the ultrasound imaging. Methods are also provided for viewing and analyzing the ultrasound images. Apparatus and methods are also provided for enhancing X-ray images obtained from conventional mammographic systems, and with reduced overall X-ray dosage to the patient.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are provided for compressing biological tissue for use with a radiographic or sonographic imaging system that enhances imaging of the tissue near a patient's chest wall. The apparatus includes a compression assembly having first and second compression surfaces, and structure for positioning the first compression surface relative to the second compression surface so that the first and second compression surfaces experience a lateral translation as they move towards one another. In addition the first and second compression surfaces may be tilted slightly relative to a plane orthogonal to the patient's chest wall to enhance the traction effect and to provide partial imaging within the patient's chest wall.
