摘要: An electronic engine control apparatus includes a digital computer which receives sensor signals indicative of various engine operating parameters and calculates corresponding settings of actuators used to control the energy conversion process of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus has a memory for storing and holding data independently of an ignition switch being turned off. The apparatus includes a data input for inputting data specifying a function to be performed, a memory location and a numeral. The computer is programmed to perform the function using the numeral and the memory location. The function to be performed may include modifying data in the memory location in accordance with the numeral.

摘要: A fault diagnostic system is arranged to detect faults in a fuel system of an engine with an electronic fuel injection system by monitoring the quantities of fuel consumed during a time interval. To do this, the consumption quantity of fuel is determined from a decrease of the residual quantity of fuel remaining in a fuel tank which is detected by a fuel gauge. On the other hand, the fuel injection quantity is determined independently by summing the length of the injector open time of each injection. Then, the fuel consumption quantity and the fuel injection quantity during the same time interval are compared. If the difference therebetween is larger than a predetermined permissible range, it is decided that there is some fault somewhere in the fuel system, and an indication signals is produced.

摘要: A self-monitoring system for an automotive electronc control system such as an engine control system, an electronic anti-skid control system or electronic automatic transmission control system is adapted to check each segment of the electronic control system in order to detect faulty segments. To detect faulty segments, the self-monitor system checks inputs and outputs of the electronic control system. The checked data is stored in a memory which is not erased when the power supply is turned off. The self-monitoring system is associated with another automotive microcomputer which includes a display unit. The other automotive microcomputer is adapted to display the results of the checking operation of the self-monitoring system in response to a display request manually inputted from a manual unit to display identification of the fault segment and/or error condition thereof. The monitor can also be associated with a fault indicator, such as an LED, which is responsive to detection of error in any of the segments to turn on.

摘要: A fail-safe system for an engine control system is capable of performing a fail-safe operation when a crank angle sensor fails. When the crank angle sensor malfunctions, at least one of a crank reference signal and a crank position signal will be absent. The fail-safe system prevents the engine from stalling even when one of the crank reference signal and the crank position signal is absent. The fail-safe operation will be carried out when the absence of the crank reference signal and/or the crank position signal is detected. In the fail-safe operation, a fail-safe signal is produced for controlling engine operation as a replacement for an engine control signal from the engine control system under normal conditions. The signal value of the fail-safe signal may be variable in accordance with an engine operating condition derived from an engine control parameter other than the crank angle sensor signals.

摘要: A watchdog timer works in concert with special computer program features to monitor program execution and reset the computer in case of malfunction. The computer CPU is programmed to periodically output one of an alternating pair of values to a register which holds the value for a comparator. The output value is compared to a predetermined value equal to one of the alternating output value. When the compared values are equal, the comparator outputs a reset signal to a counter. The counter counts clock pulses and if it counts to its full capacity before being reset by the comparator output, it outputs a reset signal which causes the computer to restart program execution. A second comparator may be provided to compare the alternating values to a reference value equal to the other values. Thus the comparators check for proper output of both signals and reset the counter only in response to receipt of both values. In addition a second counting system may be provided so that the computer will be reset whether the period of alternating value output increases or decreases.

摘要: A digital control system for an internal combustion engine uses a two stage register. The register is used to store digital data representative of sensed engine operating conditions and to feed such data to a programmable digital computer for processing. Processing time is improved by reading only one register containing the most significant data bits of the stored data for engine parameters having a relatively narrow dynamic range and reading both registers, containing all data bits of the stored data for engine parameters having a relatively large dynamic range.

摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling knock level in an internal combustion engine having knock induced vibrations and valve noises. Engine knock is decided when the knock induced vibration level exceeds at least one of the valve noise level and a limiting level. A basic value for the timing of ignition of the engine is calculated based upon engine operating parameters. The basic value is modified according to the result of the engine knock decision in a manner to operate the engine close to its knock level.

摘要: A system and method for controlling ignition timing of an internal combustion engine controls the ignition timing in accordance with the measured intensity of knocking when such occurs. The system corrects the ignition timing by a retardation amount related to the intensity of knocking. The system monitors engine vibration over a period in which knocking cannot occur and over the period after TDC in which knocking may occur and compares the vibration intensity levels to produce a statistical measure of knocking intensity. If the measured intensity reflects a high probability of severe knocking, ignition is retarded immediation to an extent related to the measured intensity. If knocking is absent to a high probability, ignition timing is advanced to a fixed extent. When only light knocking is detected, the measured intensity is monitored over numerous ignition cycles until the cumulative intensity level reflects a high probability either of desirable trace knocking or moderately disruptive knocking. In the latter case, ignition is retarded to a fixed extent.
