Abstract:
A digital optical network (DON) is a new approach to low-cost, more compact optical transmitter modules and optical receiver modules for deployment in optical transport networks (OTNs). One important aspect of a digital optical network is the incorporation in these modules of transmitter photonic integrated circuit (TxPIC) chips and receiver photonic integrated circuit (TxPIC) chips in lieu of discrete modulated sources and detector sources with discrete multiplexers or demultiplexers.
Abstract:
A photonic integrated circuit (PIC) chip comprising an array of modulated sources, each providing a modulated signal output at a channel wavelength different from the channel wavelength of other modulated sources and a wavelength selective combiner having an input optically coupled to received all the signal outputs from the modulated sources and provide a combined output signal on an output waveguide from the chip. The modulated sources, combiner and output waveguide are all integrated on the same chip.
Abstract:
A system, apparatus and method are described for deployment of a control loop between optical or electro-optical modules and a multiplexing module to provide a desired power profile of banded optical channel groups. The power output characteristics of the optical or electro-optical modules, the properties of the transmission paths of the banded optical channel groups, and other factors may be analyzed to allow the control loop to achieve the desired power profile on the banded optical channel groups. The control loop may adjust the output power on the optical or electro-optical modules so that the banded optical channel groups are delivered to an optical component, such as an optical multiplexer or photo-detector, having a particular optical power profile.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for promoting mesenchymal stem cell expansion while maintaining a pluripotent phenotype are disclosed. Serum-free cell culture systems and kits and methods of use for mesenchymal stem cell expansion are provided. Methods also comprise the use of the expanded mesenchymal stem cells to treat various disorders or diseases, particularly those of the cardiovascular system, bone, or cartilage.
Abstract:
A method for automatically gauging a benefit of a tuning action. The method including collecting a plurality of observations of a running state of a plurality of threads in a computer system, as executed by a processing in a computer system. Identifying a plurality of resources the computer system and a capacity of each resource of the plurality of resources. Mapping an observation of the running state of each thread of the plurality of threads to a resource that the observation of each thread uses, respectively. Applying the tuning action to a first resource of the plurality of resources to determine an impact on the performance of the computer system.
Abstract:
A method (and system) of modeling runtime behavior for a software application includes limiting a portion of a run to be analyzed using criteria that define an analysis scenario, structuring events of the analysis scenario as a flow of logical content through a plurality of transformations, applying labels to elements of the flow, and generating a behavior signature for the analysis scenario based on the labels.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the fields of agriculture, plant breeding or genetic engineering for plants with increased yield, crop forecasting and crop management. In particular, the methods herein describe novel methods of predicting a plant's yield through the measurement of specific metabolites either individually or in combination with one another in a specific plant reproductive tissue. The plant predictive methods described herein may be used to predict yield of plant populations as well as allow for more efficient crop management practices (e.g. amount and timing of chemical applications or amount of irrigation water applied to a field).
Abstract:
A semiconductor fabrication method. The method includes providing a semiconductor substrate, wherein the semiconductor substrate includes a semiconductor material. Next, a top portion of the semiconductor substrate is removed. Next, a first semiconductor layer is epitaxially grown on the semiconductor substrate, wherein a first atomic percent of a first semiconductor material in the first semiconductor layer is equal to a substrate atomic percent of the substrate semiconductor material in the semiconductor substrate.
Abstract:
Techniques for assessing the utilization efficiency of a portion of memory are provided. One or more images of a portion of memory are obtained. The one or more memory elements found within each image are categorized into one or more application-neutral categories, wherein the one or more categories distinguish between data and structural overhead. At least one analysis is performed on the one or more categorized memory elements of the one or more images using a measure representative of the efficiency of utilization of the portion of memory. The one or more results of the analysis step are outputted.
