摘要: A method of manufacturing an ultrasound transducer is provided. The ultrasound transducer is activated and the activity across the transducer is measured to determine whether the activity at any area does not meet an acceptance criteria. The transducer is then modified so that the area meets the acceptance criteria. The transducer may be modified with a laser which removes material from the area which does not meet the acceptance criteria.

摘要: The invention relates to a flexible assembly for use in a region of a medical or surgical device. In preferred embodiments, the flexible region comprises a set of pull wires for controllably moving a treatment end of the device, and elements to separate the pull wires and maintain the integrity of the shaft of the flexible region in order to improve the operating aspects of the device. The devices and methods can be especially useful in ablation treatments, such as ablation at cardiac or epicardial tissues.

摘要: An oral device for improving airway patency comprises a base adapted to be held between a patient's upper and lower teeth and a tongue-engaging member. The tongue-engaging member engages the tongue and displaces the tongue anteriorly when the base is held between the patient's teeth. A vacuum is applied through the base and the tongue-engaging member in order to draw the soft palate against a posterior region of the tongue in order to stabilize the soft palate and open or clear the patient's airway.

摘要: An ablation device includes at least one ablation cell or element having a piezoelectric layer and the piezoelectric layer includes a surface interrupting feature that alters the ultrasound energy output of the piezoelectric layer compared to a piezoelectric layer of comparable size and shape having no surface interrupting feature. In a second embodiment, at least one surface interrupting feature defines a boundary between multiple segments of a single ablation element such that a lesion having a length less than the full length of an ablation element may be created.

摘要: A device for ablating cardiac tissue includes a plurality of ablation elements substantially aligned along a common axis and adjustable between first and second predetermined positions. In the first predetermined position, the plurality of ablation elements form a curved contact surface. In the second predetermined position, the plurality of ablation elements form a substantially straight insertion configuration. At least one hinge may connect adjacent ones of the plurality of ablation elements. Each of the plurality of ablation elements may be located within a housing, which may have at least a portion of a hinge integrally formed therewith to connect adjacent ablation elements. Alternatively, a strand of superelastic material, such as a Nitinol wire, may interconnect ablation elements. The superelastic material may bias the plurality of ablation elements into at least one of the first and second predetermined positions.

In one aspect, the control system delivers energy nearer to the surface of the tissue by changing the frequency or power. In another aspect, the ablating element delivers focused ultrasound which is focused in at least one dimension. The ablating device may also have a number of ablating elements with different characteristics such as focal length.

摘要: A saliva collector comprises a reservoir, a bubble barrier, and a membrane, where the bubble barrier and membrane are arranged in tandem on a flow path from an inlet to an outlet on the reservoir. Air aspirated from a patient's oral cavity enters the reservoir through the inlet, passes through the bubble barrier to remove foam and bubbles, passes through the membrane to remove entrained liquid saliva, and passes out through the outlet.
