摘要: The present invention discloses a self-sealing cannula and methods of its use. The self-sealing cannula can be minimally invasively placed into the heart for drawing and/or returning blood with a self-sealing function at the interface of the blood access site. The disclosed cannula can be implemented as a single lumen cannula or a double lumen cannula, which can be used with ventricular assist devices for heart support or pump-oxygenators for ECMO and respiratory support. Through a self-sealing mechanism fixed on the ventricular wall or atrial wall, a cannula body is attached to the self-sealing fixture and blood is drawn into the lumen via an external pump and returned to the circulation system through a separate cannula. In the case of the double lumen cannula embodiment, the blood will be drawn into the drainage lumen of the double lumen cannula and returned through an infusion lumen at the desired location. The present invention achieves minimally invasive insertion without surgical sutures to the heart, and allows for optimal drainage of the blood from the heart. With use of the double lumen cannula, it prevents need for multiple cannulation sites, and greatly reduces the blood recirculation. Removal of the cannula is simplified without need for suturing or insertion of a plugging member.

摘要: A safety lancet transseptal access system is disclosed. The system includes a housing having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end having an opening with a plunger and the distal end terminating in a housing wall, a housing lumen extending through the housing and a release mechanism coupled to the housing. The system further includes a puncture device spring connected to the plunger and a disk. The system further includes a puncture device connected to the disk. When the plunger is pushed towards the distal end of the housing, the puncture device spring compresses triggering the release mechanism which then causes the puncture device to be deployed past the housing wall. Additionally, once deployed, tension from the puncture device spring pulls the disk and the puncture device back into the housing to a neutral position.

摘要: An endoluminal needle or punch is describes wherein the distal end of the endoluminal needle is able to articulate laterally out of the longitudinal axis of the steerable endoluminal needle. The endoluminal needle further comprise a blunted distal end configuration that is minimally traumatic. Under control by the user, at the proximal end of the endoluminal needle, a sharp stylet can be advanced to punch tissue and then be retracted to maximize safety. The endoluminal needle is configured for use within an introducer.

摘要: Among other things, there is disclosed structure and methods for maintaining access to a location in the body while reducing or eliminating the potential for pulling an access device (e.g. a catheter) back through an opening. An introducer sheath includes a distal indented portion and a balloon, so that once placed in a desired location through tissue, the balloon can be inflated to anchor the sheath against retraction. In particular embodiments, structure and methods for accessing the pericardial cavity via the right atrial appendage are shown.

摘要: A method is provided that includes inserting a catheter into an atrium of a subject, and deploying at least one loop from a wall of the catheter, such that a distal end of the loop is distal to a distal end of the catheter. The method further includes inserting the loop partially into an appendage of the atrium, and, while inserting the loop, atraumatically contacting a portion of a perimeter of an opening of the appendage with a portion of the loop. Thereafter, the loop is further inserted into the appendage. Thereafter, a size of the opening of the appendage is measured using the loop. Other applications are also described.

摘要: Novel and unique medical devices and associated methods are disclosed, for a medical device for puncturing tissue at a tissue site. The medical device is an elongate member having a proximal section, a distal section, and a rail section therebetween. The medical device includes an active tip at a distal end of the distal section and is operable to deliver energy to create a puncture through the tissue. The rail section is configured to both act as a rail for supporting installation of one or more tubular members thereupon, as well as be maneuverable for enabling access to the tissue site.
