摘要: A method and associated system for multi-disciplinary optimization of various parameters associated with a space vehicle that experiences aerocapture and atmospheric entry in a specified atmosphere. In one embodiment, simultaneous maximization of a ratio of landed payload to vehicle atmospheric entry mass, maximization of fluid flow distance before flow separation from vehicle, and minimization of heat transfer to the vehicle are performed with respect to vehicle surface geometric parameters, and aerostructure and aerothermal vehicle response for the vehicle moving along a specified trajectory. A Pareto Optimal set of superior performance parameters is identified.

摘要: The present invention provides methods and compositions useful in the diagnosis and management of autoimmune diseases. In particular, the present invention provides improved methods and compositions for the diagnosis and management of Graves' disease. The methods of the present invention not only avoids the need for radioactivity and are much simpler, economical, and rapid than methods traditionally used for the diagnosis of Graves' disease, but also improve upon the sensitivity and detection abilities of previous luciferase-based autoantibody detection assays.

摘要: Improvements in present day fire hydrants are presented. The improvement relates to a fire hydrant where the above ground structure is essentially removed and is replaced with an adaptable connection. The connection uses the same mounting hole pattern as used in the above ground hydrant. In operation, the adaptable connection is protected by a hinged cover that is opened to provide access to the adaptable connection. The adaptable connection includes a bayonet type connection where a portable fire hydrant is secured and rotated to start the flow of water. The adapter includes an electronic communication device that transmits real-time information on connection and flow characteristics. The adaptable fire connection eliminates the appearance of the fire hydrant, the potential of a vehicle hitting a fire hydrant and the material cost associated with above ground fire hydrants.

摘要: A sealing method and apparatus involves positioning sealant carriers in a gap between first and second components to be sealed. Sealant is applied to a first major surface of the sealant carriers. As the first and second components are tightened together, the carriers are compressed and cause sealant to travel from the first major surface and through the carriers to a second major surface which is opposed to the first major surface. The sealant carriers may be positioned on respective carrier supports while sealant is being applied to the first major surface of the sealant carriers. The supports are used in initially positioning the sealant carriers in place and then are removed prior to tightening the first and second components together. The supports may include alignment mechanisms for use in aligning the sealant carriers with one of the first and second components. The sealant adheres the sealant carriers to such one of the first and second components following removal of the supports.

摘要: An analog-to-digital converter utilizing a pulse density concept wherein a pulse generator is used and the rate of generation of pulses is a function of the difference between the analog input and the indicated digital output. The pulses are utilized in an adding/accumulation circuit for adjusting the output value upwardly or downwardly to minimize the error input. A digital-to-analog converter is used between the output of the accumulator and an algebraic summing network in a feedback manner to compare with the analog input and produce the error signal.

摘要: A radioimmunoassay method for the in vitro determination of the renin activity of an unknown plasma sample. In this method an unknown generation sample is provided by mixing the unknown plasma sample with a generation buffer solution and an inhibitor for enzymes which convert angiotensin I to other substances. The unknown generation sample is incubated to generate angiotensin I therein by action of renin upon angiotensinogen, thereby producing a generated unknown sample. A generated unknown radioimmunoassay reaction mixture is provided by mixing the generated unknown plasma sample with a predetermined amount of radioactively labeled angiotensin I, a predetermined amount of an antibody for angiotensin I, and an amount of an assay buffer solution sufficient to provide in the unknown reaction mixture renin and angiotensinogen concentrations at which there is no substantial angiotensin I generation at the temperatures to which the generated unknown radioimmunoassay reaction mixture is subsequently exposed. The reaction mixture is incubated at a temperature of at least about 12.degree.C. so that a competitive binding reaction takes place between the antibody and both labeled and unlabeled angiotensin I. Bound angiotensin I is separated from unbound angiotensin I and the relative proportions of bound and unbound labeled angiotensin I in the reaction mixture are determined. The angiotensin I content of the generated unknown reaction mixture is determined by comparison of the relative proportions of bound and unbound labeled angiotensin I in the reaction mixture with the relative proportions of bound and unbound labeled angiotensin I in standard radioimmunoassay reaction mixtures containing known amounts of unlabeled angiotensin I. The renin activity of the plasma is determined from the difference between the angiotensin I content of the generated unknown reaction mixture and the angiotensin I content of an ungenerated radioimmunoassay reaction mixture containing a sample of the same unknown plasma. A kit useful in carrying out the method of the invention is also disclosed.

摘要: The present invention describes a liquid direct fluorescence antibody assay that is rapid and sensitive to detect respiratory virus in infected cells. The assay includes centrifugation of the specimen, incubation of sample and reagents in solution, and detection of the absence or presence of respiratory virus. Sapogenin is used as a detergent to permeabilize the cells for entry of the monoclonal antibodies to react with intracellular antigens. The cells are stained with fluorescently labeled monoclonal antibodies against the viral antigens along with a background stain and a fluorescent nuclear stain. This counter staining decreases background and allows co-localization of antigen and nuclear structures for enhanced detection.

摘要: A two-piece bracket assembly for use in cabinetry as a drawer slide rear mounting include one piece to receive the rear end of a drawer slide. The other piece is fastened to the inside of the cabinet back. The first piece is pushed into the second piece and retained by spring-clip detent action. Horizontal sliding movement of the clipped portion of the second piece in the first piece is possible when needed for adjustment of the slides to establish parallelism of the drawer front with the cabinet front, without adjustment of the piece fastened to the cabinet back.
