Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a separation medium comprising rotary dried or spray dried precipitated silica. The silica has a pore surface area P wherein log10 P>2.2, and the ratio of BET to CTAB is at least 1.0 measured prior to any surface modification of the silica. The present invention is further directed to a method of separating suspended or dissolved materials from a fluid stream, comprising contacting the stream with the separation medium described above.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel packaging articles, e.g., food and beverage cans. Preferred cans typically comprise a body portion and an end portion, wherein at least one of the body and end portions are aluminum and are coated on at least one major surface with a coating composition of the present invention. Suitable coating compositions of the present invention comprise: one or more polyester resins, wherein at least on the polyester resins has a glass transition temperature (“Tg”) less than about 50° C., and wherein the polyester resin is formed by the reaction of one or more polyacid molecules and one or more polyol molecules; and a crosslinker. The present invention also provides a method of making such cans.
Abstract:
A coating composition for a food or beverage can that includes an emulsion polymerized latex polymer formed by combining an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component with an aqueous dispersion of a water-dispersible polymer.
Abstract:
A multi-component composite coating composition is provided which includes a basecoat deposited from an aqueous basecoat film-forming composition and a transparent topcoat applied over the basecoat. The basecoat film-forming composition includes at least one crosslinkable film-forming resin and at least one amphiphilic alcohol having the structural formula: HO—R, wherein R includes a linear hydrocarbon segment having at least seven contiguous carbon atoms. The amphiphilic alcohol is present in an amount ranging from about 0.01 to about 50 weight percent based upon total amount of resin solids of the basecoat film-forming composition. A coated substrate is also provided.
Abstract:
A waterborne coating composition having improved smoothness is provided which contains a polymeric film-forming resin in aqueous medium and from about 0.1 percent to about 10 percent by weight based on total weight of resin solids of at least one material having the following structure: ##STR1## where n is an integer that is at least 1, R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a divalent organic radical, and R.sup.3 is an alkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
The present invention provides aqueous dispersions that, for example, include the reaction product of an oxirane-functional vinyl addition polymer having an oxirane functionality between 0.5 and 5; an acid-functional polymer having an acid number 30 to 500; and a tertiary amine. Also described are coating compositions containing the dispersion and methods of forming the dispersion.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions that include a binder and non-stoichiometric tungsten oxide particles dispersed in the binder. The tungsten oxide particles have an average primary particle size of no more than 300 nanometers. The compositions are transparent and colorless.

Abstract:
A coating composition for a food or beverage can that includes an emulsion polymerized latex polymer formed by combining an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component with an aqueous dispersion of a salt of an acid- or anhydride-functional polymer and an amine, preferably, a tertiary amine.
Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition is provided which includes crosslinkable film-forming resin and about 0.01 to about 25 weight percent on a basis of total resin solids of an amphiphilic adjuvant having an acid value of less than 30, a water-soluble polar end including at least one terminal hydroxyl group and a water-insoluble hydrocarbon end including at least seven contiguous carbon atoms. The coating composition is useful as a monocoat or primer, basecoat or clearcoat in a multi-component composite coating composition for automotive applications.
