    摘要: In a water-cooled, multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, which comprises cylinders and a cooling jacket, the cylinders are connected in the lower region thereof to each other and to the cooling jacket, and crankshaft main bearings consisting of two parts which are mutually connected by means of main bearing bolts, the lower ends of the cylinders are connected to the cooling jacket at a height from the bottom edge of the cylinders corresponding to 0.5 to 0.75 times the cylinder diameter, and downwards from this level the lower cylinder ends are connected to each other but otherwise free and unconstrained, and the threads for the main bearing bolts are arranged at a height from the bottom edges being at least that great as the distance of the connection between the cylinders to the bottom edges.Thereby, reaction forces from the main bearing bolts are transmitted directly to the region above the connection between the cylinders and the cooling jacket or are transmitted through the junction between the cylinders and cooling jacket and distributed to the cylinders and the cooling jacket in that region thereof which is above the junction. The unconstrained lower end of each cylinder is free from reaction forces thus avoiding unacceptable deformation in this region. Also, it is possible to choose a comparatively small working clearance between piston and cylinder which means less noise generation. Moreover, piston rings with lower tensions may be used, which means lower friction and, owing to the drastically reduced liner deformation, also less oil consumption.

    摘要: In a water-cooled, multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, which comprises a cylinder block, a cylinder head, and a cooling jacket, all cast in one piece and wherein the cylinder head comprises, for each cylinder of the cylinder block and on one longitudinal side thereof, an intake and exhaust duct as well as valve guide sockets and on the other longitudinal side a mounting socket for an injection nozzle or sparking plug, forming a connection between the end wall of the cylinder and the cooling jacket, at least one fin is provided on the side where the mounting socket is arranged to make an additional connection between the end wall of the cylinder and the cooling jacket.This arrangement compensates for the differential section modulus between the two longitudinal sides of the cylinder head regarded as a bending section, that is to say, the neutral axis of the cylinder head is shifted, at least approximately, back into the plane which contains the cylinder axes. This achieves an even distribution of combustion forces from the end wall of the cylinder to the cooling jacket and by comparison with the conventional arrangement reduces noise emission from the exposed longitudinal sides of the cylinder head.

    摘要: In an air-cooled internal combustion engine with one or more cylinder banks, a cooling-air blower and an intercooler for the air charge, the intercooler--as seen in the flow direction of the cooling-air--is placed directly in front of the cylinder bank, i.e. preferably over its entire length. The intercooler is subject to the full stream of cooling-air passing through the cylinder bank. A comparison of conventional designs and the arrangement described by the invention shows that the power requirements of the blower are reduced by as much as 15% in conventional assemblies, and by even 20% in special-purpose vehicles as described below.
