    摘要: A cylinder head is formed by positioning a clad preform including a first and second layer in a casting die cavity with the second layer in communication with the die cavity and the first layer facing outwardly to define a combustion surface. Molten material provided to the die cavity is solidified to form a cast portion metallurgically bonded to the second layer. An aperture of the preform forms a port in fluid communication with a passage of the cast portion. A plurality of dome-shaped preforms may define the combustion chambers of a cylinder head formed by the method. The preform may define a cylinder head face. The first layer may be a steel-based layer, and the second layer and cast portion may be aluminum-based, such that the first layer and combustion surface has higher thermal fatigue strength relative to the cast portion.

    摘要: An engine includes a cylinder block having a bore, a piston fitted into the bore so as to form a combustion chamber and to be able to reciprocate, a cylinder head for closing the combustion chamber and having valve bores communicating with the combustion chamber, and valves for opening and closing the valve bores. A heat insulating coating is applied on a wall face of at least one of the piston, the cylinder head, and the valves and facing the combustion chamber. The heat insulating coating includes resin and a plurality of hollow nanoparticles embedded in the resin, smaller in diameter than a thickness of the heat insulating coating, and smaller than or equal to 500 nanometers in size.

    摘要: An unfinished cylinder head casting for producing a cylinder head for internal combustion engines powered with diesel fuel includes a sealing surface, intended for mounting in a finished state on a corresponding sealing surface of an engine block, and designed on a sealing surface section of the unfinished cylinder head casting. A thickness of the sealing surface section in a casting state exhibits a machining allowance in relation to its set thickness, obtained after a material-removing finishing of the sealing surface. The sealing surface includes a combustion chamber region, associated with a combustion chamber formed in the engine block. In the case of such a cylinder head, an optimum load-bearing capacity is achieved in a simple manner in that a combustion chamber region sealing surface section machining allowance amounts to a maximum of 15% of the machining allowance of the sealing surface section in the remaining region of the sealing surface.

    摘要: A piston-cylinder assembly of an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a cylinder liner mounted within a bore formed in an engine block, and a cylindrical spacer extending axially and endwise from the liner and coacting therewith to form a cylinder in which a piston is mounted for reciprocatory movement. An end piece overlies an end of the spacer and is supported by the latter. The end piece substantially closes off one end of the cylinder and the piston is in close proximity thereto when at one stroke limit. When the piston is at the one stroke limit, it coacts with the end piece and the spacer to define a combustion chamber. The end piece is secured in assembled relation with the spacer by a first means. A second means is provided for effecting substantial thermal insulating of the block, liner and first means from the heat of combustion which is generated in the combustion chamber during operation of the engine.
