Abstract:
An automatic transmission control for the automatic range of a transmission has a power control valve for selecting a desired gear ratio with a manual control valve operable to set the desired gear selection and a plurality of selector valves automatically operated to set the power control valve dependent upon the transmission output speed and up to a highest gear selection selected by an operator. The action of the selector valves is inhibited in down shift of the transmission as demanded by physical movement of the manual control valve to a lower gear setting until a predetermined transmission output speed is reached to avoid overspeeding of the engine.
Abstract:
A crawler tractor includes a main frame, and longitudinallyextending track frames on either side thereof. A generally Tshaped member interconnects the rearward end of each track frame with the main frame, with the oppositely-extending arms of each generally T-shaped member being unequal in length. Each generally T-shaped member may be pivoted to substantially 180* about the remaining arm thereof to vary the lateral position of the associated rearward end of the track frame. An equalizer bar interconnects the main frame and the track frames forwardly of the rearward portions thereof, and means are associated with the equalizer bar and the track frames for varying the lateral positions of the forward portions of the track frames in accordance with the variation of the lateral positions of the rearward portions as set forth above.
Abstract:
An improved equalizer bar assembly for crawler-type vehicles. An elongated equalizer bar rockably supports the main frame of the vehicle and its ends pivotally engage track frames disposed on opposite sides of the vehicle frame. A pair of bracket-like structures depend from the main frame to positions below the equalizer bar adjacent each of the track frames and mount a resilient pad which also is in engagement with the underside of the equalizer bar.
Abstract:
A composite wire-like structure for adding relatively volatile metallic agents such as magnesium to molten ferrous metal comprising an inner core of said metallic agent, an outer sheath of ferrous metal, and an insulating material disposed between said sheath and said core in surrounding relation to the core. A method is also provided for adding said agent to molten ferrous metal comprising the steps of continuously feeding the composite wire-like structure containing said agent at a controlled rate sufficient to provide a desired amount of said agent in the molten metal.
Abstract:
A regenerative heat exchanger matrix comprising a multiplicity of blocks of a porous ceramic material having substantially flat side faces arranged side-by-side with adjacent side faces abutting and held together by a key member inserted into sockets formed in each of the abutting side faces. The blocks may be bonded together additionally to using the key members. The strength of the bonds between adjacent blocks may be selected to permit stress to be relieved by controlled fracture at the bonds, the blocks remaining connected together by the key members.
Abstract:
Lubricating means are provided for lubricating track rollers for track-type vehicles including conventional support bushing bolt holes modified to communicate with existing lubricant reservoirs via radial passages formed between the bolt holes and the reservoirs. Removal of one of the bolts from the modified bolt hole and loosening of another such bolt pemits filling and venting of the corresponding reservoir for replenishing lubricant as necessary, either in the factory or field.
Abstract:
A piston such as used in axial and/or radial piston hydraulic translating units, comprising a hollow-skirt portion having inner surfaces defining a substantially conical cavity filled with a core of lightweight material, the material being retained in place against axial displacement by an annular wall integrally cast at the open end of the piston and against angular displacement by a plurality of integrally formed gussets joining the inner surfaces of the skirt wall and the annular wall.
Abstract:
A differential mechanism suitable for such purposes as coupling the engine of the vehicle to opposite drive wheels utilizes a hydrodynamic fluid coupling and a planetary gear arrangement to provide two different modes of differential action for use at different vehicle speeds. In a first mode for use at low speeds, a mechanical differential action is modified by torque regeneration through the fluid coupling to limit slip of one wheel relative to the other with the slip limiting effect being proportional to the difference of rotational speed of the two wheels. In the second or high speed mode of operation, brought about by discharging the fluid coupling, a purely mechanical differential action is realized.
Abstract:
A bucket assembly has a bucket which is openable and closable by means of fluid pressure applied to one and the other end of a cylinder. The assembly includes a joint which allows free rotation of the bucket through 360*, meanwhile providing that the fluid pressure may pass through the joint to one or the other side of the cylinder, irrespective of the rotative position of the bucket. A valving system is included for providing rapid opening of the bucket.
Abstract:
An improved truck for track type tractors having resiliently mounted track roller assemblies. The truck includes an elongated frame journalling sprockets at opposite ends about which an endless track is trained. A plurality of track roller assemblies engage the lower run of the track and are resiliently secured to the frame to cushion vertical movement of the track roller assemblies. A linkage system or, in the alternative, a cable system, interconnects the track roller assemblies and the frame to restrain the track roller assemblies against longitudinal shifting relative to the frame. Depending side members secured to the frame are in sliding contact with opposite ends of each track roller assembly to restrain the same against side-to-side shifting movement.
