Abstract:
A method for fabricating an (Al,Ga,In,B)N or III-nitride semiconductor device, including performing a growth of III-nitride or (Al,Ga,In,B)N material including a p-n junction with an active region and using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) or chemical vapor deposition; and performing a subsequent regrowth of n-type (Al,Ga,In,B)N or III-nitride material using MOCVD or chemical vapor deposition while utilizing a pulsed delta n-type doping scheme to realize an abrupt, smoother surface of the n-type material and a higher carrier concentration in the n-type material. In another example, the method comprises forming a mesa having a top surface; and activating magnesium in the p-type GaN of the (Al,Ga,In,B)N material through openings in the top surface that expose the p-type GaN's surface. The openings are formed before or after the subsequent regrowth of the tunnel junction.
Abstract:
Described herein are cyclophanes, compositions, and methods for live cell imaging. The cyclophanes comprise an ordered, cyclic arrangement of a chromophore, a first linker unit, a molecular strut, and a second linker unit. The compositions are capable of being taking up by cells and resist photobleaching under live-cell imaging conditions.

Also disclosed are methods for making and using the rotaxanes.
Abstract:
A separation medium consisting of a cyclodextrin metal-organic framework (CD-MOF) for separating aromatic compounds and methods of preparing the same are presented. Bottom-up preparations include the following steps: (a) preparing a first mixture comprising a cyclodextrin, an alkali metal salt, water and an alcohol; (b) performing one of the following two steps: (i) stirring the first mixture; or (ii) adding an amount of a surfactant to the first mixture to form a second mixture; and (c) crystallizing the CD-MOF from the first mixture or the second mixture. Top-down preparations include the following steps: (a) preparing a first mixture comprising the cyclodextrin, an alkali metal salt, water and an alcohol; (b) crystallizing the CD-MOF from the first mixture; and (c) optionally performing particle size reduction of the crystallized CD-MOF. The CD-MOFs are amenable for use in methods for separating alkylaromatic and haloaromatic compounds from a mixture of hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method and system for embedding a watermark in a digital image and recovering the watermark from the digital image. The method includes representing the plurality of binary bits in the watermark using a plurality of symbols, wherein each symbol of the plurality of symbols represents at least two binary bits. The plurality of symbols are then transformed into a plurality of pseudo noise (PN) sequences, wherein a symbol transformed into a PN sequence represents one or more PN sequence vectors from a set of PN sequence vectors. Once the transformation is done, the plurality of PN sequences are embedded in the digital image to generate a watermarked image. During recovery, the watermark is recovered from the watermarked image by identifying the plurality of PN sequences in the watermarked image for recovering the corresponding plurality of symbols associated with the watermark.
Abstract:
Shape memory polymers (SMP) based on poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) in the presence of 2-carboxyethyl acrylate oligomers (CEA), multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and cross linked by ionizing radiation were investigated. Chemical crosslinking by glutaraldehyde for PVA in the presence of CEA and MWCNTs was also studied. Radiation cross linked SMP exhibits good temperature responsive shape memory behavior as demonstrated by thermal properties of radiation investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis. Transition temperature at Tan δ of radiation cross linked SMP decreased significantly by 6 and 13° C. due to addition of MWCNTs. The developed SMP exhibited promising shape memory behavior of radiation cross linked SMP for biomedical applications between temperatures range of Tan δ. Results on the gel fraction revealed significant reduction in swelling and increase in gelation due to chemical cross linking with glutaraldehyde. The radiation cross linked SMP reached 100% gelation at an irradiation dose of 50 kGy.
Abstract:
There is provided an alignment material for a liquid crystal (LC) lens comprising a co-polymer of a photosensitive monomer and at least one alkyl methacrylate monomer. The material allows for the fabrication of a LC lens or LC lens system that is self-aligned and polarization-independent.
Abstract:
An adsorbent composition for removing heavy metals from contaminated water is described. The composition comprises of a mixture of kaolin clay, cellulose powder, silica powder, magnesite powder, bentonite powder and water. The adsorbent is mixed with contaminated water and allowed to react. Once the reaction is finished a reduced contaminant containing water is gathered and reused.
