摘要: A method and apparatus for producing a molded polyurethane foam without using low-boiling solvents such as Freon and methylene chloride which present problems when used as a blowing agent. The polyurethane foam has the same good appearance and soft feeling as that produced with low-boiling solvents. A polyurethane foam is produced by injecting a polyurethane material into an evacuated cavity and permitting it to expand so that it flows and fills the cavity, said polyurethane material being composed of 100 parts by weight of polyol component and 0.1-0.6 part by weight of water as a blowing agent. The cavity pressure may be maintained high spontaneously or low while the polyurethane material is flowing in the cavity. When the polyurethane material has reached the final fill position in the cavity, the fore-end of the polyurethane material is discharged from the cavity.

摘要: A method of manufacturing light panels using a plate- or sheet-like carrier having optical fibers therein ending according to a certain pattern. The optical fibers (4) taken from a fiber supply are positioned in accordance with said pattern by means of a pattern plate (5). The optical fibers (4) lying on the side of the pattern plate (5) remote from the fiber supply (21) are introduced into a mould (1) in order to have them surrounded by a layer of a castable or injectable and quickly setting material (3) for forming the carrier. The fibers (4) are held in the desired position at the upper surface of the carrier to be formed within the mould (1) and the fiber ends are deflected in a group out of the mould (1). The fibers (4) exiting from the carrier are then cut near the surface of the carrier within the mould (1) directed to the positioning means (5) after the material has set to an extent that the optical fibers (4) exiting out of the carrier surface directed to the positioning means (5) maintain their orientation substantially normal to said carrier surface. The invention also includes an apparatus to carry out this method.

摘要: A process for manufacturing a padded element using a mold having a mold cavity and including an upper mold having an interior surface complimentary to the upper surface of the padded element and a lower mold having an interior surface complimentary to the lower surface of the padded element. The process includes placing a trim cover on the upper mold, with the trim cover comprising an inner surface and a finished outer surface in contact with substantially the entire interior surface of the upper mold, placing a liquid foamable polymeric composition on the interior surface of the lower mold and closing the upper mold and the lower mold after the liquid foamable polymeric composition expands to fill from about 50 to about 90 volume % of the mold cavity and prior to expansion of the liquid foamable polymeric composition to a point corresponding to the interior surface of the upper mold in a closed position. The liquid foamable polymeric composition expands in a direction substantially away from the lower mold and adheres to the inner surface of the trim cover. A substantial amount of expansion gases produced during expansion of the liquid foamable polymeric composition are vented prior to closing of the upper mold and the lower mold.

摘要: The invention pertains to apparatus for casting polymeric gels from volatile mixtures of monomers in open molds. The principle of the invention resides in the fact that the same concentrations of volatile components present in the polymerization mixture are also present in the gaseous state within a protective gas maintained above the free surface of the polymerization mixture, the gaseous volatile components being in the equilibrium state with those in the polymerization mixture at polymerization temperature. The apparatus includes a main pipe branch which introduces a pure protective gas into a polymerization apparatus and at least one auxiliary pipe branch for saturating the protective gas with a volatile component. These main and auxiliary pipe branches are formed by an inlet pipe connected to a control valve for setting a constant volume flow-rate and further leading to a device for measurement of the flow rate, where their outlet pipes are connected to a common inlet entering the polymerization apparatus and a saturator for a pure volatile component of the monomer mixture is arranged within the auxiliary branch before the outlet pipe.

摘要: An impingement mixing device for preparation of plastic parts or objects including cellular foam from at least two reactive synthetic components and an auxiliary component such as liquid foaming agent and including at least two injection ports and a third port for input of the auxiliary component. Inert gas optionally and a foaming agent and further additives are mixed at a point in the cylindrical wall of the component mixing chamber located in or near the vicinity of the radial plane passing through the component openings. The introduction of the inert gas, foaming agent, coloring agent, or further additives is controlled by a cleaning piston which also simultaneously cleans the mixed plastic material penetrated therein from the opening area of the inert gas feeder line. The cleaning piston is part of a control piston, which with its rear segment is located in a metering chamber for the inert gas and optionally also for the foaming agent and the additives. The transition between the rear segment of the control piston and its front segment forming the cleaning piston is in the form of a conical valve seat.

摘要: For cooling, cleansing and/or lubricating purposes on a pressure casting machine 14 there is arranged an apparatus 10 for wetting mold surfaces 12 by spraying pressurized fluid thereon, which comprises a spraying head 40 provided with spraying nozzles 42 apt to be adjusted as regards direction, in which spraying head channels 44 and adjustable throttle valves 46 are disposed. To form such apparatus such that it is suited for the selective treatment of the different mold surfaces, no expensive adaptation operations being necessary with each change of mold and/or each re-use of such mold, that moreover a rapid automatic pressure casting operation is guaranteed and that high manufacturing and storage costs are avoided. The spraying head 40 is composed of stationary member 48 and an easily exchangeable spraying nozzle carrier 54 sealingly resting thereagainst, the stationary member containing channels 44 and throttle valves co-acting with said channels and being connected to the movable holding elements, and the spraying nozzle carrier as a relatively simple and inexpensive constructional member essentially being only provided with spraying nozzles 42 and, if necessary, adjusting elements for adjusting throttle valve 46.
