The apparatus may be a core network entity. The core network entity is connected to a RAN including a primary cell utilizing a licensed spectrum and a secondary cell utilizing an unlicensed spectrum. The core network entity determines an authorization for data traffic to be offloaded to the secondary cell based on data traffic characteristics. The core network transmits an indication of the authorization to the RAN.

The present invention comprises transmitting IDC indication information including an unusable frequency band that is a frequency band in which performing communication is difficult because of IDC interference to a Base Station (BS), receiving Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection reconfiguration including IDC Discontinuous Reception (DRX) configuration reconfiguring DRX relating the unusable frequency band based on the IDC indication information from the BS and performing autonomously denial of Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) transmission in the unusable frequency band by reconfiguring DRX based on the IDC DRX configuration.

Concepts and technologies are described herein for a hybrid network-based and device-based intelligent radio access control. According to one aspect disclosed herein, a radio access technology (“RAT”) selection system and a mobile device cooperate to enable an intelligent multi-radio access control that can select a RAT that is best-suited for the mobile device. The RAT selection system can select networks based upon network conditions, policies, user profiles, applications, and/or other information, and provide a list of the networks to the mobile device. The mobile device can utilize local device information to select a network from the list. In this manner, the RAT selection system and the mobile device can cooperate to steer traffic to various networks operating in accordance with different RATs to improve user experience, especially in network traffic congested areas, and to efficiently leverage network resources for mobile telecommunications and WI-FI networks.

A method and corresponding apparatus are provided for network configuration selection in a wireless network comprising a plurality of nodes. A subset of the nodes are configured to simultaneously participate in a sounding process, in which a node of the subset omni-directionally transmits a predetermined signal and in which other nodes of the subset of nodes sample the predetermined signal as received by an omni-directional antenna array of that node. Measurement reports are received from the subset of nodes, each measurement report comprising a signal source angle and a received signal strength. A path loss is determined in dependence on each measurement report to generate a set of path losses covering a plurality of transmitter node receiver node pairs. Then a directional configuration is selected for a directional antenna of each node of the subset of nodes for data transmission in dependence on the set of path losses.

An antenna apparatus operates as a base station in a wireless network with spatial nulling performed within such apparatus. The apparatus has an antenna assembly employing a selected reception beam pattern. During a nulling test, a reception beam pattern controller causes the assembly to employ each reception beam pattern. Quality metric determination circuitry determines for each reception beam pattern a link quality metric for each of several wireless terminals, based on communication between those wireless terminals and the base station whilst the assembly employs that reception beam pattern. Reception beam determination circuitry determines, from the various link quality metrics, a reception beam pattern from the reception beam patterns for use for subsequent communication with the wireless terminals. A reception beam pattern can be altered seeking to reduce interference source effects and to maintain an appropriate level of link quality regarding each wireless terminal communicating with the base station.

A rotatable antenna apparatus has a fixed unit for attachment of the apparatus to an external structure, and a rotatable unit mounted on the fixed unit and comprising an antenna assembly and processing circuitry coupled to the antenna assembly for signal processing. An interface unit, coupled to both the fixed unit and the rotatable unit, routes a cable to provide a wired connection from the fixed unit to the processing circuitry. The interface unit includes a cable housing within which a coiled length of the cable is enclosed. A control mechanism coupled to the interface unit constrains the amount to which the length of cable is wound and unwound within the cable housing to inhibit application of a stretching stress on the cable during rotatable unit rotation. This provides a very efficient, cost effective mechanism for providing a wired connection to the processing circuitry included within the rotatable unit.

Systems, devices, and configurations to implement trusted connections within wireless networks and associated devices and systems are generally disclosed herein. In some examples, a wireless local area network (WLAN) may be attached to a 3GPP evolved packet core (EPC) as a trusted access network, without use of an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and overhead from related tunneling and encryption. Information to create the trusted attachment between a mobile device and a WLAN may be exchanged using Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) extensions defined by IEEE standard 802.11u-2011, or using other protocols or standards such as DHCP or EAP. A trusted WLAN container with defined data structure fields may be transferred in the ANQP elements to exchange information used in the establishment and operation of the trusted attachment.

Systems and methods for data bandwidth optimization are disclosed. A server receives, from a computing device, a request to begin a network data session. Responsive to receiving the request, the server allows the computing device to access network data at a full speed for a grace time period. Upon expiration of the grace time period, the server allows the computing device to access network data at a reduced speed for a monitoring time period. During the monitoring time period, the server monitors the computing device to determine whether the computing device is accessing network data in bursts or streaming data. Based on whether the computing device is accessing network data in bursts or streaming data, the server either allows the computing device to access network data at the full speed for a waiver time period or allows the computing device to access network data at the reduced speed until completion.
