Abstract: The present invention provides a methods, apparatus and systems for improving a systems-level data rate on a communications link such the orthogonal frequency division multiplexed multiple access (OFDMA) downlink used in used in WiFi and LTE cellular/wireless mobile data applications. The present invention preferably uses a form of multilevel coding and decoding known as tiled-building-block encoding/decoding. With the present invention, different receivers coupled to different parallel downlink channels with different channel qualities decode different received signal constellations at different levels of resolution. This allows the downlink of the OFDMA system to operate with a significantly higher data rate, thus eliminating existing inefficiencies in the downlink and significantly increasing system level bandwidth efficiency.

Abstract: A relaying method in a telecommunication system having a plurality of sources, a half-duplex relay relay and a recipient. The relay performs a receiving phase of: receiving codewords transmitted by the sources, including estimating for each source a message associated with the codewords transmitted by the source, error detection and decision of error-free decoded messages, which determine the set of sources decoded without error by the relay; a phase of coding and transmitting to the recipient a signal uniquely representative of the selection of messages, such that, after each reception of a block from different sources, the relay receives and decodes a return path from the destination indicating if no or at least one message is decoded without error, these messages determining the set of sources decoded without error. The relay switches from the receiving phase to the coding and transmission phase once a logic rule is valid.

Abstract: A method for performing code block segmentation for wireless transmission using concatenated forward error correction encoding includes receiving a transport block of data for transmission having a transport block size, along with one or more parameters that define a target code rate. A number N of inner code blocks needed to transmit the transport block is determined. A number M-outer code blocks may be calculated based on the number of inner code blocks and on encoding parameters for the outer code blocks. The transport block may then be segmented and encoded according to the calculated encoding parameters.

Abstract: A system and method for block-code transcoding. An input signal is analyzed to determine if the input signal includes multiple control words, multiple data words and a single control word or only data words. If the input signal comprises multiple control words, the method includes, generating a control word location map and mapping the control codes and any data words to a block-code encoded transmission signal. If the input signal comprises a single control word and multiple data words, the method includes, generating a control word location address indicating a location of the single control word and mapping the control code and the multiple data words to a block-code encoded transmission signal. If the input signal comprises only data words, the method includes, mapping the data words sequentially into the block-code encoded transmission signal. Accordingly, the bandwidth efficiency of the transmission signal is improved by varying the encoding technique used dependent upon the contents of the input signal.

The transmitter includes: a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) encoder configured to encode input bits to generate an LDPC codeword including the input bits and parity bits to be transmitted in a current frame; a parity permutator configured to perform by group-wise interleaving a plurality of bit groups configuring the parity bits based on a group-wise interleaving pattern comprising a first pattern and a second pattern; a puncturer configured to puncture some of the parity-permutated parity bits; and an additional parity generator configured to select at least some of the punctured parity bits to generate additional parity bits to be transmitted in a previous frame of the current frame, based on the first pattern and the second pattern.

A mapper modulates a first bit string in which the number of bits is the predetermined integral multiple of (X+Y) in the code word using a first scheme, the first scheme being a set of a modulation scheme in which an X-bit bit string is mapped to generate a first complex signal and a modulation scheme in which a Y-bit bit string is mapped to generate a second complex signal, and modulates a second bit string in which the first bit string is removed from the code word using a second scheme different from the first scheme.
