The electrosurgical cable includes supply and return lines that are wound in a double helix arrangement around a dielectric insulator within the electrosurgical cable. An electro-thermal element is provided at a distal end of the electrosurgical cable. The electro-thermal element is in electrical communication with the supply and return lines via corresponding first and second conductive traces. The first and second conductive traces have a patterned geometry and resistivity configured to convert electrical energy provided by the supply and return lines to thermal energy for treating tissue.

This invention relates to high-frequency ablation of tissue in the body using a cooled high-frequency electrode connected to a high frequency generator including a computer graphic control system and an automatic controller for control the signal output from the generator, and adapted to display on a real time graphic display a measured parameter related to the ablation process and visually monitor the variation of the parameter of the signal output that is controlled by the controller during the ablation process. In one example, one or more measured parameters are displayed simultaneously to visually interpret the relation of their variation and values. In one example, the displayed one or more parameters can be taken from the list of measured voltage, current, power, impedance, electrode temperature, and tissue temperature related to the ablation process. The graphic display gives the clinician an instantaneous and intuitive feeling for the dynamics and stability of the ablation process for safety and control. The present disclosure provides for a device and methods of use to endoluminally ablate and/or occlude a body vessel using a current to perform resistive heating. The device includes a resistive coil having thermistor properties where the resistance of the coil changes as a function of temperature. A control unit will detect the voltage, current, and resistance in the coil during the heating of the coil to determine the temperature of the coil. As occlusion occurs and the cooling effect of blood flow decreases, less power will be required to maintain the coil at a desired temperature. Detecting a large decrease in required power will indicate to the control unit that the body vessel has become occluded.

The present invention relates to ultrasound assisted tissue welding, more particularly, to a method and device utilizing ultrasound energy for effective closure and sealing of surgical incisions or other wounds. The device of the present invention comprises an ultrasound generator, an ultrasound transducer, a transducer tip at the distal end of the ultrasound transducer, and a radiation surface. A web such as gauze is placed over the incision. In an embodiment, the device may be used to bring the edges of the tissue to be sealed together as the device applies energy to the tissues. Ultrasonic waves emanating from the radiation surface pass through the web and seal the incision creating a continuous seam. The device may be used with or without additional adhesive materials or therapeutic agents.

The catheter has a front tip with a heating element for slightly heating a media surrounding the front tip in a blood vessel of the patient's cardiovascular system, and two temperature measuring elements located adjacent to and in front and behind the heating element respectively for measuring temperatures in the media at their respective locations. A guidance device is coupled to the catheter for converting the heating power and temperature measurement signals to digital signals, processing the digital signals, and displaying guidance information indicative of the location of the front tip of the catheter relative to the blood vessel wall of the patient's cardiovascular system. The guidance information may be shown by an intuitive traffic light type display.

The radiofrequency ablation catheter and a therapy device including the radiofrequency ablation catheter can precisely control the ablation temperature by means of PTC, such that upon coagulation of tissues, the ablation catheter is not adhered to the tissues, thus avoiding the risk of complications such as rebleeding.
