Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for the simplification of sub-block motion candidate lists for video coding are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes determining, during a conversion between a current block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, a temporal motion vector prediction candidate based on a temporal neighboring block of the current block. The temporal neighboring block is identified based on motion information of a spatial neighboring block selected from one or more spatial neighboring blocks that are different from at least one spatial neighboring block used in a merge list construction process of a video block. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the temporal motion vector prediction candidate.

Abstract: A method of visual media processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current video block of visual media data and a bitstream representation of the current video block, a buffer that stores reference samples for prediction in an intra block copy mode; for a sample spatially located at location of the current video block relative to an upper-left position of a coding tree unit including the current video block and having a block vector, computing a corresponding reference in the buffer at a reference location, wherein the reference location is determined using the block vector and the location; and upon determining that the reference location lies outside the buffer, re-computing the reference location based at least in part on a location of the current video block relative to the coding tree unit including the current video block.

An exemplary method of video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, motion information associated with the current block using a hash-based motion search, a size of the current block being M×N, M and N being positive integers and M being not equal to N, applying, based on the motion information and a video picture comprising the current block, a prediction for the current block, and performing, based on the prediction, the conversion.

In an exemplary aspect, a method for video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a first block of video and a bitstream representation of the first block of video, whether a use of non-power-of-two partition trees (NPT-T) is enabled or disabled, wherein the NPT-T includes splitting the first block to multiple smaller sized child blocks of the first block, and at least one child block's width and/or height have a dimension that is a non-power-of-two integer; and performing the conversion based on the NPT-T in response to the determination that the NPT-T is enabled.

Abstract: A method of video processing includes making a first determination about whether a decoder-side motion vector refinement (DMVR) tool is enabled for a conversion between a current block of a current picture of a video and a coded representation of the video; making a second determination, based on the first determination, about whether or how to clip a motion vector according to a bounding block for reference sample padding in a reference picture used for determining a prediction block for the current block according to a rule, and performing the conversion based on the first determination and the second determination. By using the DMVR tool, an encoded motion vector from the coded representation is refined prior to using for determining the prediction block.
