Abstract: This document provides methods and devices for metering fluids. In some cases, the methods and devices include intersecting channels that include capillary-stop geometries at each intersection point that guides the fluids on a desired path, which is controlled by the opening and closing of valves. For example, a metering channel can intersect a loading channel and intersect an outflow channel and a metering portion can be defined by the geometry of the metering channel between the intersection points.

Abstract: An analyzing device has a main body and is configured to draw a sample liquid from a spot application section of the main body and transfer the sample liquid to a measurement chamber via a microchannel structure formed inside the main body by a centrifugal force. The spot application section has an inlet. The analyzing device includes a supplying capillary channel formed within the spot application section. The supplying capillary channel has an end connected to the inlet of the spot application section. The analyzing device also includes a holding chamber connected to another end of the supplying capillary channel and having a thickness sized to generate a capillary force to move the sample liquid. The holding chamber is formed between a first side wall and a second side wall. The first side wall and the second side wall define the holding chamber.

Abstract: An instrument for processing a biological sample includes a chassis. Connected to the chassis is a tape path along which a tape with a matrix of wells can be automatically advanced through the instrument, a dispensing assembly for dispensing the biological sample and a reagent into the matrix of wells of the tape to form a biological sample and reagent mixture, a sealing assembly for sealing the biological sample and reagent mixture in the tape, and an amplification and detection assembly for detecting a signal from the biological sample and reagent mixture in the matrix of wells in the tape.

Abstract: A system that fills multiple containers includes a filter with an inlet port and multiple outlet ports. The outlet ports are pre-attached to containers by respective filling lines of each container. Each container has an interior and each of the respective filling lines is connected to a respective container interior. All of the respective filling lines are sealed to the outlet ports and the containers such that the container interiors are isolated from an external environment except the inlet port, via the filter, forming a combined interior volume which is sterile. The system can produce batches of multiple sterile containers with sterile medicament in the containers.

Abstract: There is provided an assay fluid delivery system comprising an array of fluid reservoirs (62), each of which is selectively actuatable to deliver a respective fluid to a fluid channel structure; and a fluid delivery control system (50) comprising a plurality of reciprocally mounted actuators, each associated with a respective reservoir and being movable between a retracted position and an actuating position at which it causes fluid to be delivered from the corresponding reservoir, a plurality of cams (22) with different profiles mounted on a common, rotatable cam shaft (6), each cam being engaged with a respective one of the actuators whereby rotation of the cams causes movement of the corresponding actuators between the retracted and actuating positions, and a motor coupled to the cam shaft for rotating the cam shaft, wherein the cams are shaped relative to one another so as to cause the corresponding actuators to actuate the reservoirs in a predetermined sequence and for predetermined respective times.

The bubble valve includes a fluid meniscus interfacing the microchannel interior and an actuator for deflecting the membrane into the microchannel interior to regulate fluid flow. The actuator generates a gas bubble in a liquid in the microchannel when a sufficient pressure is generated on the membrane.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improved flow properties in fluidic and microfluidic systems are disclosed. The system includes a microfluidic device having a first microchannel, a fluid reservoir having a working fluid and a pressurized gas, a pump in communication with the fluid reservoir to maintain a desired pressure of the pressurized gas, and a fluid-resistance element located within a fluid path between the fluid reservoir and the first microchannel. The fluid-resistance element includes a first fluidic resistance that is substantially larger than a second fluidic resistance associated with the first microchannel.
