Abstract:
A radioactive shielding material formed by coating or plating depleted uranium U-238 with a layer of beta ray impermeable material. The material has particular application for use as a hypodermic syringe shield component, and as shields for other hand held instruments carrying or impregnated with radioactive materials.
Abstract:
A safety apparatus for use in administering radioactive serums by a syringe, without endangering the health and safety of the medical operators, consists of a sheath and a shield which can be retracted into the sheath to assay the radioactive serum in an assay well. The shield can be moved from the retracted position into an extended position when the serum is to be injected into the patient. To protect the operator, the shield can be constructed of tantalum or any like high density substance to attenuate the radiation, emanating from the radioactive serums contained in the syringe, from passing to the atmosphere. A lead glass window is provided so that the operator can determine the exact quantity of the radioactive serum which is contained in the syringe.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a syringe having two or more dispensing chambers therewithin operable to dispense from or fill independent chambers in any desired sequential order. More specifically, this invention relates to a syringe having a multiple needle assembly connected to a main housing and having an inner dispensing and outer dispensing assemblies operable to independently either dispense or receive fluids, such may be operable to inject fluids into the blood system at variable steps thereon which process is most desirable when utilizing radioactive fluids for medical analysis.
Abstract:
In the present disclosure, embodiments of dual-stage syringes are disclosed along with delivery systems incorporating the dual-stage syringes. Embodiments of the dual-stage syringes described herein include sleeved dual-stage syringes, turn-key dual-stage syringes and dual-stage syringes including one or more one-way valves.
Abstract:
A shield for a syringe containing biohazardous material includes an elongate body comprising a compartment extending longitudinally therethrough from a body cold end to a body hot end, the compartment dimensioned to receive a syringe barrel; a cold end cover dimensioned to receive and enclose a syringe plunger extending beyond the body cold end, the cold end cover attachable at the body cold end for enclosing the compartment and the syringe plunger at the body cold end thereby to shieldingly contain the biohazardous material in the syringe at the body cold end; and a hot end cover attachable at the body hot end for at least enclosing the compartment at the body hot end thereby to shieldingly contain the biohazardous material in the syringe at the body hot end.
Abstract:
Systems, kits and methods for preparing an injection system and/or treating target lesions with a selective internal radiation therapy which includes a double-barrel syringe loaded with a two-component tissue glue and radioisotope loaded microspheres. The microspheres are loaded into the syringe based on the size of the target location and are administered with a needle or dual-lumen catheter. Dosing regimens for treating breast cancer lesions or surgical beds up to 130 mm in diameter and hepatocellular carcinoma lesions up to 50 mm are included.
Abstract:
An integrated radiopharmaceutical patient treatment system is disclosed including a patient support platform with an associated patient stimulus apparatus, an imager proximate the patient support platform, a radiopharmaceutical fluid delivery system for infusing a radiopharmaceutical fluid into a patient, a patient monitor to be associated with a patient, and an integrated system controller operably associated with the patient stimulus apparatus, imager, radiopharmaceutical fluid delivery system, and patient monitor to control and coordinate their operations. Within the patient treatment system the radiopharmaceutical fluid delivery system may be included comprising a radionuclide supply module, a radiopharmaceutical processing module, a quality control module, a patient injection module, and a controller. A hazardous fluid handling system including a docking station and a hazardous fluid transport device adapted to detachably dock with the docking station is further disclosed.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for delivering a medical fluid are disclosed. The system includes a fluid flow path, a fluid administration device adapted to deliver the medical fluid through the fluid flow path, and a controller in communication with the fluid administration device. The method includes using the system to determine a desired flow rate of the medical fluid at a distal end of the fluid flow path based upon at least a desired flow profile of the medical fluid at the distal end. The method further includes initiating a fluid delivery operation by delivering the medical fluid through the fluid flow path according to fluid delivery parameters provided to the fluid administration device by the controller. Information about the fluid delivery operation may be received at the controller which executes a control function to adjust the fluid delivery parameters based on the received information.
Abstract:
A radioisotope generator system can include a column assembly having a column, an inlet arm, an outlet arm. The column can contain packing material that binds a radioisotope. In addition, the column may define a notch between an open area and a stopper receptacle area in which an opening of the outlet arm is positioned. In some examples, the system includes a Luer lock connection between the outlet arm and a connector tubing. The Luer lock connection can include a male Luer cap and a female Luer cap each comprising tabs configured to line up with or overlap each other so as to indicate when the caps are sufficiently tightened together so as to form a non-leaking lock.
Abstract:
Vial containers including a collar which is attached to a vial or incorporated into a vial cap, a cap designed to receive a portion of the collar while covering the vial, and a container designed to receive a portion of the collar and encase the body of the vial are described herein. The collar, generally, includes a means for reversibly attaching to the cap and container.
