Abstract:
The invention is intended for integrated decontamination of soils contaminated with mercury (amalgam) or/and radionuclides. Method for soil decontamination includes preparation of pulp by mixing soils with water at the soil sampling point with separation of fraction with fragments more than 100 mm in the pulp preparation module, disintegration of pulp and soil aggregates in the disintegration module with separation of plants residues and fraction with fragments more than 10 mm. Pulp thickening. In the hydroclassification module the pulp is separated into sand and fine particle fractions, the fine particle fraction goes to the dehydration module, designed as a concentrator, where it is thickened and dehydrated for further disposal. If mercury and amalgam are present in soils they are separated in the thickening module. Technical result—implementation of a low-waste nonchemical technology for decontamination of soil from mercury, its water-insoluble forms, amalgam or/and radionuclides in a single technological process without equipment resetting, separation of metal mercury or its amalgam.
Abstract:
A post-accident fission product removal system may include an air mover, a filter assembly, and/or an ionization chamber. The air mover may be configured to move contaminated air through the filter assembly to produce filtered air. The ionization chamber may be connected to the filter assembly. The ionization chamber may include an anode and a cathode. The ionization chamber may be configured to receive the filtered air from the filter assembly and to ionize and capture radioisotopes from the filtered air to produce clean air.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method are provided for the treatment of uranium-contaminated soil by using comprehensive joint technology. The apparatus include the pumping system, the electrokinetic remediation system, elution system, remediation-separation system and recharge system. The remediation technologies (i.e. chemical, photolysis and electrokinetic) are used to remedy the uranium-contaminated soil. First, extract uranium from the contaminated areas and make the ionized uranium extract from the soil phase to the solution phase. Then, use the electrokinetic remediation technology to drive uranium enrichment electromigrate to near the anode. Finally, return the repaired-soil and groundwater back to anode area and recharge well, respectively. This comprehensive joint apparatus can reduce the uranium volume in the contaminated soil or water, and recycle the obtained uranium, which are cleaning processes and have no secondary pollution.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods that absorb waste into a metal-organic framework (MOF), and applying pressure to the MOF material's framework to crystallize or make amorphous the MOF material thereby changing the MOF's pore structure and sorption characteristics without collapsing the MOF framework.
Abstract:
A method for collecting volatile radioactive substances. The method includes irradiating a volatile radioactive substance on or under a contaminated material surface using microwave radiation and vaporizing the volatile radioactive substance, wherein the volatile radioactive substance comprises at least one of cesium and iodine. The method further includes recovering the vaporized volatile radioactive substance from the contaminated material. The method may be accomplished with and/or without physically collecting or isolating the contaminated material.
Abstract:
An apparatus for disposal of low-level surface radioactive pollutants has a container body which center has accommodating space with opening at its top. Around the accommodating space there is a layer of barrier space for holding water. At the periphery of the barrier space there is a non-barrier hollow channel for the accommodating space to connect outside. A rotating disk is located at the bottom of the accommodating space in the container body for holding and turning the low-level radioactive waste to be treated and also facilitating the worker to pass through the non-barrier hollow channel for cleaning task.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and device for collecting particulate contaminants removed using a CO2 decontamination medium from an early step of a decontamination process. The device removes particulate contaminants from a contaminated subject by a decontamination stream, and simultaneously forms another stream for collecting such contaminants into a collecting filter, thus preventing such contaminants from diffusing into the atmosphere. The device forms streams between the nozzles and the surface of the contaminated subject to readily move the nozzles along the surface of the subject without frictional resistance, to reduce the sense of fatigue of the operator. The method and device are advantageous in that when the device is readily used with a conventional CO2 blasting decontamination unit to collect particulate contaminants, removal of particulate contaminants from a contaminated subject and collection of particulate contaminants contained in the decontamination stream are simultaneously performed, also allowing compressed gas blasted through air curtain blasting nozzles to prevent contaminated gas from diffusing into the atmosphere.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a process for dissolving ruthenium deposits that are present on a surface and a process for decontaminating the internal circuits of nuclear fuel reprocessing plants using the said dissolution process. The process according to the invention comprises bringing the said surface into contact with an aqueous solution of perruthenate, with the said aqueous solution having a pH equal to or greater than 12, so that the ruthenium is oxidised.
Abstract:
