Abstract: Particular embodiments may provide a virtual off-road guide for a learning vehicle. In some embodiments, a control system for a learning vehicle comprises one or more processors and a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors being operable when executing the instructions to receive a trace of an off-road trail traversed by a precedent vehicle and corresponding trace parameters; in response to receiving the trace parameters, adjusting one or more driving parameters of the learning vehicle based on the trace parameters; and providing instructions for traversing the trace based on the trace parameters. In some embodiments, the trace parameters comprise location, orientation, relative position along the off-road trail, ride height, drive mode, brake regeneration level, steering angle, power consumption, acceleration, or torque.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing system of a vehicle may access sensor data associated with a surrounding environment of a vehicle. The system may generate, based on the sensor data, a first trajectory having one or more first driving characteristics for navigating the vehicle in the surrounding environment. The system may generate a second trajectory having one or more second driving characteristics by modifying the one or more first driving characteristics of the first trajectory. The modifying may use adjustment parameters based on one or more human-driving characteristics of observed human-driven trajectories such that the one or more second driving characteristics satisfy a similarity threshold relative to the one or more human-driving characteristics. The system may determine, based on the second trajectory, vehicle operations to navigate the vehicle in the surrounding environment.

Abstract: The technology relates to assisting large self-driving vehicles, such as cargo vehicles, as they maneuver towards and/or park at a destination facility. This may include a given vehicle transitioning between different autonomous driving modes. Such a vehicles may be permitted to drive in a fully autonomous mode on certain roadways for the majority of a trip, but may need to change to a partially autonomous mode on other roadways or when entering or leaving a destination facility such as a warehouse, depot or service center. Large vehicles such as cargo truck may have limited room to maneuver in and park at the destination, which may also prevent operation in a fully autonomous mode. Here, information from the destination facility and/or a remote assistance service can be employed to aid in real-time semi-autonomous maneuvering.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes determining a plurality of available locations for a vehicle to pick up or drop off a user in an area based on sensor data that is captured by the vehicle and is associated with physical characteristics of the area. The method includes calculating a viability value for each of the plurality of available locations. The viability value is calculated based on the physical characteristics of the area as determined from the sensor data. The method includes ranking the plurality of available locations according to the viability values of the plurality of available locations. An available location with a higher viability value is ranked above an available location with a lower viability value. The method includes sending instructions to present, on a computing device, one or more selectable locations of the plurality of available locations based on the ranking.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling autonomous vehicles are provided. Assisted autonomy tasks facilitated by operators for a plurality of autonomous vehicles can be tracked in order to generate operator attributes for each of a plurality of operators. The attributes for an operator can be based on tracking one or more respective assisted autonomy tasks facilitated by the operator. The operator attributes can be used to facilitate enhanced remote operations for autonomous vehicles. For example, request parameters can be obtained in response to a request for remote assistance associated with an autonomous vehicle. An operator can be selected to assist with autonomy tasks for the autonomous vehicle based at least in part on the operator attributes for the operator and the request parameters associated with the request. Remote assistance for the first autonomous vehicle can be initiated, facilitated by the first operator in response to the request for remote assistance.

In one aspect, on-board controllers in each vehicle interact with vehicular sensors to monitor and control, for example, gear ratios on vehicles. A front vehicle can shift a gear which, via a vehicle-to-vehicle communication link, can cause a rear vehicle to shift gears. To maintain a gap, vehicles may shift gears at various relative positions based on a grade of a road.
