摘要： An apparatus and a process for bonding a cardboard blank which has been coated or laminated with a plastic film, and particularly for hinge-lid packets such as cigarette packets on a continuously operated packing machine. The plastic film and a portion of the underlying cardboard material are first treated to expose a more suitable surface for bonding. Preferably, such treatment is by contacting with an apparatus which penetrates the plastic coating and creates depressions in the underlying cardboard. Subsequently, an adhesive is applied to the treated surface. The treated surface is compressed with the complementary area of the cardboard blank to be bonded. The apparatus of the invention comprises a heatable member whose contact surface may be comprised several rows of juxtaposed points or tips which may be approximately 1 to 5 mm in height.

摘要： Packing machines which manufacture packing containers of the so-called gable-top type from flexible packing laminate frequently handle prefabricated, tubular packing container blanks which are provided with a bottom section by folding in and sealing of a number of bottom wall panels. The bottom is pressed down and sealed while the blank is supported by a mandrel on a mandrel wheel.In order to avoid the transmission of the pressing and sealing forces to, and stressing of, the axle and bearing of the mandrel wheel, an arrangement is proposed which is designed so that the compressive forces generated by the pressure devices are absorbed by a tie rod which connects the pressure application arrangement with the axle of the mandrel wheel, so that the forces are absorbed internally without stressing the mandrel wheel axle or other surrounding elements.

The gable top carton is of the type having a gable closure including side flaps and end flaps extending to a lower height than the side flaps. Opening of the carton is facilitated by providing an area that is not firmly adhered at the center of the upper portion of an end flap. Security of the seal in spite of the unsealed area is achieved using a stake point immediately below the area that is not firmly adhered. Sealing dies to achieve the foregoing are described.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for forming two-piece drinking cups and containers from conventionally shaped arcuate sidewall blank and bottom blanks of filled polypropylene sheet material or polypropylene-polyethylene copolymer sheet material with approximately 40% talc or calcium carbonate as a filler. The arcuate blanks for the sidewall and the bottom blanks are run through relatively standard two-piece container or cup making machinery utilizing patterned air jet heating means to heat areas of the filled plastic sheet material such that the sidewall and bottom curl seams can be heat sealed on the forming mandrels of the machinery and the top curl can be placed in the container by heating and substantially conventional forming dies. The seaming structures so produced are extremely water tight and of high strength characteristics.

摘要： A multi-piece, tub shaped paperboard container having a circular opening in the top thereof is provided with a multi-piece, reinforced rim coated with a layer of meltable plastic and is assembled by appying heat to overlapping seams in order to melt the plastic coating and thereby seal the seams. Heat is applied evenly around the entire periphery of the rim by a 2-piece, annularly shaped, heated collar which may be selectively shifted into conforming engagement with the container. The even application of heat around the entire periphery of the rim equalizes the surface tension of the plastic coating during melting thereof to avoid deformation of the rim during the heat sealing process.

A web or blank of the material is heated on one side to an extent such that the material acquires a tendency to assume a tubular shape. Overlapping longitudinal ends of the web or blanks are heat and pressure sealed to form a tubular member. The ends of the tubular member are folded inwardly under the effect of heat to form flange-like portions to which end plates may be attached to form the packing container.
