A method of transmitting a complex content packet in a broadcasting and communication system is provided. The method includes creating an Forward Error Correction (FEC) source block by using at least one MMT Processing Unit (MPU) included in at least one MPEG Media Transport (MMT) asset, and transmitting the FEC source block, wherein the FEC source block is generated so that a boundary of the at least one MPU and a boundary of the FEC source block do not deviate.

A method and an apparatus for transmitting data in a multimedia transmission system are provided. The method includes receiving, from an encapsulation function layer, a second data unit having one or more first data units, configuring payload header information, the payload header information including a payload type and configuration information, by analyzing header information of the second data unit, configuring one or more payloads from the second data unit based on sizes of the one or more first data units, configuring a multimedia data packet by combining payload header information corresponding to each of the one or more payloads, and transmitting the multimedia data packet to a counterpart entity. Each of the one or more payload includes at least one payload element, the type of which is selected from among a first type, a second type, a third type, a fourth type, and a fifth type.

A server for transmitting and receiving messages for a Signaling (S) layer in a Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) Media Transport (MMT) is provided. The server includes a first sub-layer of the S layer for producing first messages to provide information used for the use of MPEG a second sub-layer of the S layer for producing second messages to provide information used for delivering MPEG media, and a Delivery (D) layer for making external and internal deliveries of the first and the second messages, wherein each of the first and the second messages includes at least one field corresponding to each of the message type, version, length, extension field and payload.

The present invention includes: the processes of determining at least one MPEG media transport (MMT) asset protected by an application layer forward error correction (AL-FEC); determining at least one FEC flow for transmitting the at least one MMT asset; determining the MMT asset transmitted from the at least one FEC flow in each case and determining an FEC coding structure to apply to the at least one FEC flow; producing at least one source flow by dividing the MMT asset transmitted from the at least one FEC flow on a transmission unit basis; and producing and transmitting at least one parity flow by performing AL-FEC encoding on the at least one source flow according to the FEC coding structure.

The segment includes at least one fragment, segment index information indicating the position of the at least one fragment in the segment, and fragment index information including information indicating the position of each of a plurality of samples included in the at least one fragment and information about a total size of the samples.
