Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, and systems are described related to mapping special subframes in a wireless communication network. In embodiments, an eNB may assign demodulation reference signals (DM-RSs) and/or cell-specific reference signals (CRSs) to a downlink pilot time slot (DwPTS) of a special subframe responsive to a determined configuration of the special subframe. In embodiments, an eNB may bundle the DwPTS or an uplink pilot time slot (UpPTS) of the special subframe with another subframe for scheduling. In embodiments, a UE may estimate a channel associated with the special subframe based on DM-RSs and/or CRSs transmitted in another subframe. In embodiments, an eNB may exclude the DwPTS from scheduling for certain special subframe configurations if a new carrier type (NCT) is used. In embodiments, an eNB may exclude certain special subframe configurations from use for NCT communications. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Abstract:
Techniques for efficient small cell discovery are described. In one embodiment, for example, an evolved node B (eNB) may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to determine a discovery signal transmission schedule for a series of radio frames based on a discovery signal muting pattern specifying at least one discovery-muted radio frame among the series of radio frames, and a transceiver to transmit at least one primary synchronization signal (PSS) and at least one secondary synchronization signal (SSS) during the series of radio frames according to the discovery signal transmission schedule. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and methods for operating in a coverage enhancement (CE) mode are generally described herein. The UE may include hardware processing circuitry configured to determine a CE category for the UE based at least partly on downlink channel statistics related to reception of one or more downlink signals from an eNB. The CE category may reflect one of a level of additional link margin and a level of system resources for performance at or above a performance threshold. The hardware processing circuitry may be further configured to transmit, in physical random access channel (PRACH) frequency resources, a PRACH preamble according to an uplink access repetition number. The PRACH frequency resources and the uplink access repetition number may be based at least partly on CE category for the UE.
Abstract:
Generally discussed herein are systems, apparatuses, and methods that can provide a coverage enhancement to a coverage limited device. According to an example a method can include repeating a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) data transmission multiple times over multiple sub-frames to a coverage limited Machine Type Communication (MTC) User Equipment (UE), or repeating the PBCH data transmission two or three times within one sub-frame to the coverage limited MTC UE.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein relate generally to a communication between a user equipment (UE) and an evolved Node B (eNB). An eNB may allocated uplink and downlink regions associated with machine-type communication (MTC) to a UE. The allocation of uplink and downlink regions may be asymmetric. The eNB may identify parameters based on this asymmetric region allocation to avoid resource collision during communication of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) acknowledgement (ACK) or negative acknowledgement (NACK) feedback between the eNB and the UE. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.
Abstract:
A new carrier type (NCT) has been developed for LTE in order to reduce the overhead associated with cell-specific reference signals (CRS) and control signaling via the PDCCH. The NCT is an LTE carrier with minimized control channel overhead and cell-specific reference signals. Described herein are techniques where, upon receiving a PDSCH grant from a eNB using DCI format 1A to indicate a fallback transmission mode, a UE transmits a CQI to the eNB based upon CSI-RS resources contained in the NCT.
Abstract:
Disclosed in some examples are methods, systems, and machine readable mediums which reuse existing LTE functionality to rapidly signal UEs on the availability of a LTE-U cell. Using these techniques the on/off operation can be in the order of a few milliseconds (ms). Several techniques are disclosed herein, including use of component carrier (CC) specific Discontinuous Reception (DRX) signaling, PDCCH signaling, DL assignment based signaling, Physical Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request Indicator Channel (PHICH) signaling, Beacon signaling, and the like.
Abstract:
In embodiments, apparatuses, methods, and storage media may be described for distinguishing, by a user equipment (UE), a reference signal (RS) transmitted by a cell that may have a same identifier (ID) as another cell in a network. In embodiments, a muting pattern, a time offset, or a virtual cell identifier (VCID) may be used to generate an RS sequence or RS resource allocation.
Abstract:
Embodiments allow selection of a Discovery signal (DS) used to identify an eNB to a UE receiving the DS. The DS allows the UE to ascertain the existence and/or cell identifier of the eNB. DS comprise a plurality of other signals such as a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS), a Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS), a Cell Specific Reference Signal (CRS) and/or a Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS). A DS occasion comprises a number of subframes where the selected signals that comprise the DS are transmitted. The signals selected for the DS, their characteristics and properties allow a UE to decode the cell identifier. The DS occasion occurs with a designated periodicity.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards devices and methods for discovering and waking up dormant access nodes in cellular networks. In one embodiment, the user equipment may be configured with information to assist in determining a discovery zone of discovery signals transmitted by cells in a network. In some embodiments, the information may include a duration of a discovery zone.
