Abstract:
In a form printing machine having a printing section provided with a printing unit comprising a plate cylinder, a blanket cylinder and an impression cylinder, a change speed means for changing the rotation speed of the impression cylinder independently of the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder is provided.
Abstract:
Device for adjusting a relative rotational position of a gearwheel and a ring gear which are coaxially mounted, comprising a device for applying a spring force to at least one of the gear wheel and the ring gear so as to form a positive connection between the gear wheel and ring gear, and an hydraulic system for reducing the applied spring force, the hydraulic system being formed of components disposed on the gearwheel.
Abstract:
A numbering cam for a printing press having a numbering device with an operating member to cause indexing of the device, said cam having a cam surface to cause actuation of said operating member by moving said operating member from a rest position to an indexing position, and a magnet to attract said operating member to cause said operating member to return from said indexing position to said rest position.
Abstract:
An electromagnetic, clutch-brake, positioning assembly is shown in an endorsing or printing environment which requires precise positional control. The assembly has an output shaft and a second output member which is an output gear which is located close to a rotary input member. The assembly also includes a feedback system which monitors the wear of an associated brake pad in the assembly to adjust the energization of the associated electromagnetic clutch and braking coils to maintain accurate positional control.
Abstract:
In a varnish coater, a set of a blanket cylinder and a form roller and a set of a pan roller and a metering roller are driven by different drive sources. One-way clutches are arranged between the blanket cylinder and the form roller and between the form roller and a motor as one of the different drive sources, respectively. The form roller is selectively driven by one of the different drive sources through a corresponding one-way clutch. Alternatively, the form roller is driven by one of the drive sources which has a higher rotational speed.
Abstract:
Cardboard box forming and printing machine on which it is possible to effect a change of block on the printers without loss of time detrimental to the output of the machine. The printing modules of the machine are equipped to enable lateral translation either of the block-holder cylinder alone, or of the unit constituted by the block-holder cylinder and its inking device, as well as retractable means for propelling the cardboard which can be positioned when the block-holder cylinder is retracted laterally so as to continue to ensure the operation of advancing the cardboard provided by the latter before its lateral retraction.
Abstract:
A printing apparatus including separate serial printing heads mounted on a rotary chase whereby the heads can be selectively positioned for printing on material as the material is transported through the apparatus. The chase is mounted on a support located in an easily accessible position in the apparatus whereby the rotation of the chase to change the head or heads to be used in a printing operation can be easily accomplished. The chase is also removably positioned on the support so that an entire chase can be readily separated from the apparatus, and a different chase with different printing heads substituted in the apparatus. The chase is equipped with guides which cooperate with guides on the apparatus frame to insure automatic alignment of the chase as it is located in operating position, and the drive shafts carrying the printing heads are at the same time automatically engaged with drive means associated with the apparatus. Locking mechanisms are provided to secure the chase in position relative to the frame and the chase is also equipped with pins engageable with the apparatus frame and having the capability of adjusting printing head pressure on the material being printed. The chase is also equipped with means for automatically shifting the heads between "On Impression" and "Off Impression" positions in the course of a printing run.
Abstract:
To permit, selectively, multi-color prime printing or prime and verso printing on printing machines having plate blanket, and printing cylinders of the same diameter, the printing cylinders (8,9;51,52,53;77) have a rubber blanket thereon to receive printing information from the blanket cylinders (6,7;48,49,50;75,76) during one phase of operation and transferring this information to the sheet by engagement with the sheet supply or transport cylinders (12,60,78) which are formed with surfaces permitting them to operate as impression or printing cylinders, sheet supply being arranged to provide sheets in this mode of operation for every two revolutions of the cylinders only, to permit information transfer during the intervening idle, or non-printing phase or revolution. To prevent smearing, or transfer of unwanted ink, the blanket cylinders are supported in bearings which can rock about the center of rotation of the associated plate cylinders, under control of a control unit (C) to be placed in, or out of engagement with the printing or impression cylinders, in dependence on desired operation - multi-color prime printing or prime-and-verso printing under control of the control unit (C).
Abstract:
A low-cost energy-conserving system for heating and cooling the equipment and environment of a manufacturing installation, and more particularly, a printing plant, including an incinerator for burning waste paper generated as a result of the printing process, a first heat exchanger for utilizing exhaust gases from the incinerator for heating air to be supplied to a heat treating device or apparatus, and more particularly, a web press oven, first ductwork for conducting heated air from the first heat exchanger to the web press oven for heating purposes, second ductwork for conducting solvent-laden air from the web press oven to the incinerator where the solvents are burned to utilize their heating value and to also produce pollution-free gases, a second heat exchanger utilizing exhaust gases from the incinerator for heating air to be provided to the plant for environmental heating purposes, an outside air duct for providing air to be heated by the second heat exchanger, third ductwork for conducting heated air from the second heat exchanger to various areas of the plant for comfort heating purposes, recirculating ductwork associated with the third ductwork for recirculating environmental air to the third ductwork, controls for varying the amount of outside air and recirculated air which is supplied to the third ductwork, a well for providing cooling water to a cooling coil in the third ductwork for dehumidification and cooling purposes, and conduits for returning used cooling water to a recharge well in an uncontaminated state.
Abstract:
The plate cylinder of a printing press is driven at a non-uniform speed to suit a particular repeat length of the web to be printed. If the repeat length is shorter or longer than the plate cylinder circumference, the plate cylinder is respectively accelerated or retarded from web speed between successive imprints by being connected to the output of differential gearing of which a first input is connected to a drive gear and a second input is connected to a gear oscillated by means of a cam follower of a cam rotating together with said drive gear.
