    摘要: The present invention provides a resonance-type optical receiver circuit which keeps predetermined small distortion even when the received light level becomes high. The resonance-type optical receiver circuit varies the resistance value of variable resistance element 80, which is used as a load resistor to optical detector 4, in response to the intensity of output signal 10 of an amplifier. The load resistor varies in response to a variations of the received light level of the optical detector in this manner to keep the input to the amplifier lower than a fixed value.

    摘要: An optoelectronic switching node is disclosed wherein two input optical beams can be switched in the sense that they can be regenerated in either one of two output spatial locations in response to input control signals. Each one of the input optical beams is coupled to a resonant cavity detector which generates a current when its corresponding optical beam impinges on its resonant cavity. Output optical beams are regenerated by two inversion channel lasers each one of which has emitter, source and sub-collector terminals and is bistable in the sense that it can be switched on and off by currents delivered into and taken out of its source terminal. Heterojunction field effect transistors are used to selectively couple the currents generated by the resonant cavity detectors to the source terminals of the lasers in order to turn them on. Two heterojunction field effect transistors are each connected as a two terminal impedance between the source terminal of each laser and a reference potential in order to turn the laser off when no current is being provided by a detector. Two additional heterojunction field effect transistors are also connected as two terminal load impedances for each of the lasers. All of the devices are fabricated on a single wafer using a single epitaxial growth.

    摘要: A transimpedance front end is provided for an optical receiver which includes a photodetector coupled optically to an optical fiber for receiving optical signals over the fiber and connected electrically to the front end. The front end comprises a buffer amplifier connected to the photodetector, a first amplifier selectively connected to the buffer through a first switch and through a first, high value feedback resistor in order to define a first mode low optical signal level amplifier configuration, a second amplifier selectively connected to the buffer through a second switch and through a second, switched low value resistor to define a second mode high optical signal level amplifier configuration, and an optical level sensing and switching control circuit connected to the photodetector for sensing incoming optical signal level and for switching between the first and second amplifier configurations as a function thereof.

    摘要: An optical receiver particularly suited for use in a noisy environment, the receiver includes an optical gain device for amplifying an input signal to produce an amplified input signal, a photodetector, and a mode selector. The optical gain device includes an optical gain medium, an optical input port through which the input signal may be received into the optical gain medium, and an optical output port through which an optical output signal may leave the optical gain medium. The output signal includes the amplified input signal, plus any noise generated within the optical gain device. The input and output ports include antireflection means. In a preferred embodiment, the mode selector comprises a single mode fiber-optic cable that transmits a single spatial mode of the output signal to the photodetector.
