A process for lubricating acrylic fibers before dyeing in which packages of acrylic yarn formed by winding acrylic yarn about a dye tube are treated immersed in an aqueous lubricating bath containing a polyethylene, a low melting paraffin wax emulsion; and a high melting paraffin wax emulsion, followed by raising the temperature of the bath, to sequentially coat the fibers of the yarn with the polyethylene, the low melting paraffin wax emulsion, and the high melting paraffin wax emulsion. The yarn packages are then separated from the lubricating bath, and immersed in a dye bath to dye the yarn. In commercial application, the lubrication and subsequent dyeing is conducted in the chamber of a dye machine.

A fiber finish composition is described which enhances the dyeability of the fiber or textile materials made from the fiber. The finish composition includes an alkyl substituted quaternary ammonium cation and a barrier agent. An aqueous dispersion of the finish composition is the preferred method of applying the finish composition to fibers. Also included is an improved method of dyeing fibers and textile materials using the fiber finish composition.

The present invention relates to a process for coloring polytrimethylene terephthalate fibers by treating the fibers with an aqueous liquor containing at least one dispersing colorant, in the absence of a carrier and the application of pressure. The temperature of the treatment is carried out at or below the boiling point of the liquid, within 20.degree. C. of the boiling point of the liquor. The coloring process begins at a liquor temperature between 20.degree. and 50.degree. C., and the temperature is raised over a period of 20 to 90 minutes. The liquor is then cooled to a temperature between 20.degree. and 50.degree. C., preferably at a rate of cooling of 1.degree. C. per minute, so that at least 95% wt. % of the colorant is absorbed by the fibers, and the dispersing colorant penetrates the fibers to a relative depth of at least 5% with respect to the diameter of the fibers.

A safe, neat and more convenient process for tinting plastic optical lens substrates is provided by a novel packaging system. The tint dyes are provided in a water-soluble tint packet for the convenient preparation of solutions for tinting optical lens substrates. The tint packet has an indefinite shelf life, is stable even in summer temperatures and high humidity, protects the user from any contact with the dye material, and does not leave solid waste for disposal.

This invention relates to a fugitive ink for marking cotton modules or other like fibers wherein the ink dries in less than about two hours in the field and does not fade or wash away when the module or fiber is stored in all-weather conditions open to the elements, but wherein the ink is removed upon mechanical agitation of the fiber and the scouring/bleaching process used by textile mills. The ink composition comprises a water-soluble dyestuff, such as a sulfone containing dyestuff, a polymeric resin emulsion, a wetting agent and water.
