The present disclosure relates to a free-flowing composition having controllable properties of bulk density, particle morphology, flowability and shakeability suitable, for example, for use on or in a foodstuff or a beverage. The composition includes a blend of: (i) a plurality of substantially discrete composite particles, each composite particle comprising a core of a first edible material provided with a discontinuous surface coating formed from a first plurality of non-uniformly sized particles of a second edible material; and (ii) a second plurality of non-uniformly sized particles of said second edible material. A foodstuff comprising the composition is claimed and so are methods of employing it. The application also claims a method of preparing thee composition, said method comprising the steps of: (a) combining the first edible material, provided in dry particulate form, with the second edible material, provided in dry particulate form; and (b) heating said combination to a forming temperature (Tf), which is at least equal to the glass transition temperature or softening temperature of the first edible material, with concurrent mixing thereof, so as to coat particles of the first edible material with a first plurality of non-uniformly sized particles of the second edible material, thereby forming composite particles of said composition, and leaving a second plurality of non-uniformly sized particles of the second edible material remaining which are intermingled with said composite particles.

In one embodiment of the invention, the emulsion is a micro-emulsion, and typically comprises a surfactant and a co-surfactant or at least two carbohydrates, for example sucrose and a maltodextrin. In one embodiment of the invention, the lipid is a marine derived lipid such as fish oil, krill oil, or nutraceutical fatty acids. Provided is a coffee beverage which achieves a good balance between sweet, bitter, and unpleasant tastes at both liquid temperatures of 10° C. or less, which is a liquid-temperature of the beverage while refrigerated, and around ordinary temperature (for example, 20 to 30° C.), which is an assumed liquid temperature of the beverage when it is drunk. The coffee beverage comprises fructose, maltose, and a cacao extract. Fructose is contained in a form of, for example, glucose-fructose syrup. Maltose is contained in a form of, for example, maltose syrup. The content of glucose-fructose syrup and the content of maltose syrup in the coffee beverage are each preferably 1 to 10% by weight. The weight ratio between glucose-fructose syrup and maltose syrup is preferably 3:1 to 1:3. The content of the cacao extract in the coffee beverage is preferably 0.01 to 0.1% by weight. The coffee beverage can further comprise sugar.

The invention relates to a method of decreasing oxygen consumption during physical work and to preparations having such effect. The effect is achieved by administering efficient quantities of certain combinations of (a) D-glucose, D-maltose, ethanol, glucogenic amine, glucogenic amino acid or an amino acid metabolizable through glyoxal, or a dipeptide or pharmaceutically acceptable salt of such an amino acid, and (b) a vitamin components selected from thiamine, thiamine salts or combinations of folic acid and cyanocobalamin. Simultaneous administration of the combinations is efficient when taken prior to or during physical efforts or even one day before. Preferably, the combinations are administered in the form of gelled preparations containing a gelling agent.
