This invention provides a modified liquid epoxy resin having a low viscosity and a high performance, which is obtained by reacting a mixture of a bisphenol and a phenol aralkyl resin with an epiholohydrin. The bisphenol is preferable to be bisphenol F and is further preferable to have a bifunctional form purity as detected by gel permeation chromatography at UV 254 nm of not less than 95% by area in view of the fluidity. Moreover, the mixture of bisphenol and the phenol aralkyl resin is preferable to have a ratio of the phenol aralkyl resin of 10-70% by mass.

Processes for preparing the fluorinated dienes having said structure which comprise the reaction in solution between one halogenated olefin and one hypofluorite CX.sup.3 X.sup.4 (OF).sub.2, wherein X.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are F or CF.sub.3, and the dehalogenation or dehydrohalogenation of the linear adduct between one hypofluorite molecule and two olefin molecules. The polymers and copolymers of the invention are particularly suitable for preparing coatings for applications at high temperatures.

Compounds of the invention are obtained by oxyalkylating natural rosin acids, disproportionated rosin acids or rosin acids modified with aromatic hydroxy compounds or with cycloalkyl and especially aralkyl and aryl compounds capable of splitting off halogen, and the esterification products thereof with polyols, and furthermore by oxalkylating rosin alcohols, rosin maleinates and/or mixtures of the above-mentioned rosin substances with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide; reacting the alkylene oxide addition products thus obtained with maleic acid anhydride; and then adding alkali metal sulfite or alkaline earth metal sulfites or hydrogen sulfites to the maleic acid semiesters. These compounds are useful as interface-active agents, especially as dispersing agents for the fine division and stabilization of solids, and as wetting, emulsifying, levelling and dyeing auxiliaries.
