    摘要: A motion picture coder for coding plural macro blocks of motion picture data based on a standardizing system is disclosed. The coder comprises first and second pipe-lined processors executing different coding processes respectively, both of which are separated from one another so as to accomplish a parallel operation thereof. The first processor executes a motion vector detection for a second macro block, an inter-frame addition for a first macro block and an inter-frame difference for the first macro block. The second processor executes a discrete cosine transform for the first macro block, a quantization for the first macro block, an inverse quantization for the first macro block, an inverse discrete cosine transform for the first macro block and a loop filtering for the second macro block. The motion vector detection and the discrete cosine transform are concurrently processed and the inter-frame addition and the loop filtering are concurrently processed, thereby the processing times for each macro block are shortened and thus a high speed processing is realized.

    摘要: In the recording apparatus and reproducing apparatus employing variable length coding, a formatting which prevents propagation of error due to transmission route error is realized. The input quantized value is coded in variable length and recorded in a first memory. The variable length code words recorded in the first memory are read out and formatted, and recorded into a second memory. In reproduction, the quantized value is decoded in the reverse sequence. By executing variable length coding and formatting in a pipeline operation by using two memories, high speed input signals such as moving picture signals can be formatted. Components of the recording apparatus and reproducing apparatus can be shared, and the circuit scale may be effectively reduced.

    摘要: Encoded picture data or encoded difference data is decoded by an intraframe decoder. To an adder, zero data is given through a switching circuit at the time of the decoding of intraframe coded data, and when interframe coded data, i.e., difference data is decoded, a decoded value of a previous frame is supplied through the switching circuit. By the adder, the decoded value of the previous frame and the decoded difference value are added to allow the decoding of interframe coding.

    摘要: An improved technique for decoding wherein the number of coefficients to be included in each sub-block is selectable, and a code indicating the number of coefficients within each layer is inserted in the bitstream at the beginning of each encoded video sequence. This technique allows the original runs of zero coefficients in the highest resolution layer to remain intact by forming a sub-block for each scale from a selected number of coefficients along a continuous scan. These sub-blocks may be decoded in a standard fashion, with an inverse discrete cosine transform applied to square sub-blocks obtained by the appropriate zero padding of and/or discarding of excess coefficients from each of the scales. This technique further improves decoding efficiency by allowing an implicit end of block signal to separate blocks, making it unnecessary to decode an explicit end of block signal in most cases.
