Abstract:
The flow reactor includes three flow passages including a first flow passage, a second flow passage, and a third flow passage which spirally circulate within a space formed between an inner tube and an outer tube. The flow passages are compartmented by an inner heat transfer body and an outer heat transfer body. The heat transfer bodies spirally circulate, have a screw-like cross-sectional shape in an axial cross-sectional view, and are assembled in a screw-like configuration. By changing the shapes of a male-thread portion and a female-thread portion, the flow passage area of the first flow passage is changed, the second flow passage and the third flow passage are spirally formed, and heat exchange and reaction take place through the heat transfer bodies.
Abstract:
A heat pipe comprises a first substrate and an evaporator portion comprising a plurality of raised features on a surface of the first substrate. The heat pipe also comprises a condenser portion including a coating of an organic compound on the surface of the first substrate, wherein the coating of the organic compound on the surface of the first substrate in the condenser portion has a carbon content in a range of 1% to 15%. The heat pipe further comprises a second substrate bonded to the first substrate and a working fluid between the first substrate and the second substrate.
Abstract:
A microchannel evaporator includes a plurality of microchannels. Each of the plurality of microchannels includes a first end and a second end. A first end-tank is coupled to each first end of the plurality of microchannels and a second end-tank is coupled to each second end of the plurality of microchannels. A second-fluid inlet is coupled to either the first end-tank or the second end-tank and configured to receive a fluid into the microchannel evaporator and a second-fluid outlet is coupled to either the first end-tank or the second end-tank and configured to expel the fluid from the microchannel evaporator. Each microchannel of the plurality of microchannels includes at least one bend along a length thereof.
Abstract:
A cooling apparatus for cooling a fluid by surface water includes at least on tube for containing and transporting the fluid in its interior, the exterior of the tube being in operation at least partially submerged in the surface water so as to cool the tube to thereby also cool the fluid. The cooling apparatus also includes at least one light source for producing light that hinders fouling on at least part of the submerged exterior.
Abstract:
A system for coating a heat transfer tube for a condenser is disclosed. The system simplifies a process of coating the heat transfer tube, and is able to uniformly coat a plurality of heat transfer tubes. In addition, the system is economically feasible in that coating solution can be reused by collecting and circulating it. Due to super-hydrophobic coating, the size of a droplet condensed on the surfaces of the heat transfer tubes coated by the system can be reduced, and a condensation heat transfer coefficient can be increased.
Abstract:
A method for coating a mechanical member provided with at least a support plate and one or more tubular elements attached in through manner to the support plate. The method comprises a first coating step, in which an external surface of the support plate is coated with a first layer of plastic material, and a second coating step in which a terminal portion of the internal surface of the tubular elements is coated with a multi-layer coating. In the second coating step the multi-layer coating is made by depositing in sequence one on top of the other a plurality of layers of plastic material, each of which is deposited partly in correspondence with the terminal portion of the internal surface of the relative tubular element and partly in correspondence with the surface of the first layer of the external surface of the support plate.
Abstract:
In a cooled component system, a heat exchanger mounted on a surface of the industrial component is housed in an isolated access compartment adjacent to but separated from the primary compartment containing the industrial component. Housing the heat exchanger in a separately accessible compartment permits access to the heat exchanger for cleaning or other purposes without having to shut down the industrial component being cooled. A means for moving a cooling media over the surface a the heat exchanger might also be included to maximize heat exchange.
Abstract:
Presented herein are articles and methods featuring substrates with thin, uniform polymeric films grafted (e.g., covalently bonded) thereupon. The resulting coating provides significant reductions in thermal resistance, drop shedding size, and degradation rate during dropwise condensation of steam compared to existing coatings. Surfaces that promote dropwise shedding of low-surface tension condensates, such as liquid hydrocarbons, are also demonstrated herein.
