Abstract:
A lubricant composition for a direct injected, boosted, spark ignited internal combustion engine that contains at least one non-sulfur-phosphorus containing zinc compound is disclosed. This disclosure also relates to a method for preventing or reducing low speed pre-ignition in an engine lubricated with a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition comprising at least one oil soluble or oil dispersible non-sulfur-phosphorus containing zinc compound.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a magnetorheological fluid composition and a process for preparing the same, which has excellent magnetorheological properties. The fluid composition exhibits change in rheological characteristics in the presence of an external magnetic field. Further, the magnetorheological characteristics of the fluid composition can be optimised for the improved magnetic sensitivity to external magnetic field and negligible magnetic retentivity after removal of the external magnetic field. The sensitivity of the fluid to external magnetic field can be varied by varying the pure iron content of the magnetic sensitive particles composition while, the magnetic retentivity of the fluid (after removal of external magnetic field) can be varied by varying the ferrite alloy content of the same. The fluid composition utilises a magnetic sensitive particles stabiliser or surfactant, which is synthesised from the carrier fluid used in the fluid composition. The fluid composition, prepared according to this process, does not suffer from the rapid settling of the magnetic particles as it utilises a carrier fluid based surfactant, which improves the homogeneity of the fluid composition.
Abstract:
A magnetorheological material containing a carrier fluid and a magnetically active particle. The particle has been modified so that the surface of the particle is substantially free of contamination products. The contamination products are removed from the surface of the particle by abrader processing, chemical treatment or a combination thereof. Magnetorheological materials prepared using the particles from which contamination products have been removed exhibit significantly enhanced magnetorheological effects.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to a method of enhancing a fuel value for a used or waste lubricating oil, lubricating oils having improved combustion and emission characteristics, and a business method for distributing and using waste oils as components of primary combustion fuels. In one embodiment, there is provided a lubricating oil composition having improved combustion and emission properties when burned as a used lubricating oil composition. The lubricating oil composition includes a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor combustion improving amount of a combustion improving additive.
