摘要: An agent delivery device includes an inner tubular body having a proximal end, a sharpened distal end, a delivery lumen extending therebetween, and one or more outlet ports on the distal end communicating with the delivery lumen. The device also includes one or more seals sealing the one or more outlet ports, the one or more seals capable of being melted to allow a fluid to be delivered from the delivery lumen through the one or more outlet ports. The agent delivery device may further include a monopolar or bipolar electrode and/or a radio-opaque marker carried at the distal end of the device. The inner tubular body can be made from a conductive material to thereby allow the inner tubular body to function as an electrode.

摘要: The invention is directed to techniques for delivering a capsule for sensing acidity to a location along the esophagus via a delivery device that detects pressure variations to identify a lower esophageal sphincter (LES). More specifically, the distal end of a probe of the delivery device enters the esophagus, and extends through the esophagus into the stomach via the LES. The distal end of the probe is slowly retracted back into the esophagus and the pressure variation within a pressure sensitive chamber of the delivery device, caused by the LES, is detected to identify the location of the LES. As described, the pressure sensitive chamber can comprise a balloon filled with air or an airtight chamber formed within a distal end of the probe. In either case, the pressure sensitive chamber deforms due to the pressure of the LES thereby causing a pressure variation used to identify the location of the LES.

摘要: An ultrasonically driven pump, which may be used for sampling body fluids or atomizing liquids, has a stationary outer needle and an inner needle mounted within the bore of the outer needle. The distal end of the inner needle is positioned adjacent to the distal end of the outer needle. The inner needle is ultrasonically vibrated by an ultrasonic actuator without vibrating the outer needle, with resulting draw of liquid through the distal end of the outer needle into the bore of the inner needle for discharge through the proximal end of the inner needle. The outer needle can be formed to have a penetrating tip suited for penetrating the skin of a subject to allow sampling of body fluids including interstitial fluids. The pump can also be used for atomizing liquid, by drawing liquid from a supply that is pumped from the distal end to an open proximal end of the inner needle where the liquid is discharged by atomization into the atmosphere.

摘要: The vacuum desiccator low pressure vacuum pump and trap and is transportable upon a user's person. The device is especially useful to remove excess fluids from wounds and incisions as they heal. The device includes a desiccator cartridge containing a fluid trapping agent. The desiccator cartridge is connected to a vacuum pump member providing a low vacuum pressure to the interior chamber of the desiccator cartridge. A small battery powered, electric motor drives the pump member. An electrical control circuit, including the battery power source, controls the operation of the electric motor. A single passage, one-way, gas/liquid flow pathway connects the inlet port of the desiccator cartridge to an occlusive dressing covering the wound to be drained. The control circuit includes one or more ancillary circuits for controlling operation of the device, such as: a power circuit, a moisture sensor, a timer circuit, a vacuum pressure sensor, and a pressure differential sensor.

摘要: A device for rinsing a body cavity with a fluid includes a rinse pump for introducing fluid into a body cavity and a pressure sensor on a pressure side of the rinse pump. A medical instrument insertable into the body cavity is adapted to establish fluid communication with the body cavity. A suction pump is in fluid communication along a first pathway with the medical instrument and along a second pathway with the body cavity. Fluid flow along the second pathway is controllable. A control unit receives pressure values from the pressure sensor, controls the rinse pump, the suction pump, and the flow controller in response to received pressure values, and is thus operative to control fluid flow through the body cavity depending on an operating condition of the medical instrument.

A medical database carrier is used compare medication delivery parameters entered into a medication administration device to institutionally established guidelines or more widely accepted protocols to ensure that the medication is delivered in accordance to those guidelines. The medical database carrier may also be configured to communicate information regarding medication delivery and other patient information between a control system in communication with the care-giving facility's other information systems and a patient specific asset such as an infusion pump. The medical database carrier may be a smartcard, a PDA such as a Palmnull Pilot, laptop computer, pager, mobile phone, or other device capable of storing, processing and communicating information.
